Dating Dr. Dil
Dating Dr. Dil: A Novel | Nisha Sharma
31 posts | 27 read | 21 to read
Nisha Sharmas hilarious new romantic comedy inspired by The Taming of the Shrew features a love-phobic TV doctor who must convince a love-obsessed homebody they are destined to be together. Kareena Mann dreams of having a love story like her parents, but she prefers restoring her classic car to swiping right on dating apps. When her father announces hes selling her mothers home, Kareena makes a deal with him: hell gift her the house if she can get engaged in four months. Her search for her soulmate becomes impossible when her argument with Dr. Prem Verma, host of The Dr. Dil Show, goes viral. Now the only man in her life is the one she doesnt want. Dr. Prem Verma is dedicated to building a local community health center, but he needs to get donors with deep pockets. The Dr. Dil Show was doing just that, until his argument with Kareena went viral, and hes left short changed. Thats when Kareenas meddling aunties presented him with a solution: convince Kareena hes her soulmate and theyll fund his clinic. Even though they have conflicting views on love-matches and arranged-matches, the more time Prem spends with Kareena, the more he begins to believe shes the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But for Prem and Kareena to find their happily ever after, they must admit that hate has turned into fate. Bailedbailed

I read the audiobook so I‘m not sure if it was how they used different actors for the voices of the main characters based on the narrative, but it really bothered me and I just couldn‘t get into it. I also felt sentiments were repeated too often and some things explained that didn‘t need explanation. I liked the concept of the book and the characters, it was the inconsistency of the audiobook and some of the dialogue that inevitably had me bail.

TheSpineView #HailTheBail Better luck next time. 3mo
SarahBookInterrupted @TheSpineView I hate bailing but I‘m trying to embrace not continuing to finish all things even if I‘m not enjoying them. Just started a new one and it seems promising. 3mo

This book was like a Bollywood movie but with open door scenes. Kareena's perspective was hilarious, the humor was witty. The chemistry between her and Prem was intense. Their flirting was sometimes a bit cheesy but that is typical Bollywood style.
Some phrases were a bit odd but that may relate to the cultural background. Wished for a bit more character depth and less offensive communication combined with tough love. Loved the conflict disolving.

Even though I don't know anything about Indian culture I found I could relate to the characters. I also liked how the author handled some of the social issues. Definitely a well thought out plot. The humor just added to my reading enjoyment. And I loved the Aunties! A great beach read! 4.5 ⭐️

This one was from my #BOTM backlog list. Finally making an effort to caught up.

I love an Asian culture romance because - Aunties! ….I‘m 3-4 years into to reading piles of romance so I‘m almost comfortable with the steam and even the verbiage for sexual body parts. But a guy romancing his woman speaking of her ‘pu**y‘ kind of creeps me out.

bookishbitch It's definitely a fine line with how certain things are written. It's so easy to unintentionally change the feel of a character, good or bad. 1y
marleed @bookishbitch It is weird how words personally sit in sexual conversations. I think for me it‘s the grab-‘em-by-the-p* thing, that makes me cringe when the word is now written into dialogue. 1y
bookishbitch @marleed I completely agree!! 1y

Did I need these? no! But they were at the thrift store looking for a new home! The tagged is something I probably never would have picked up but I wanted to see what the previous reader tagged 🤷🏻‍♀️📚

Suet624 I'd be so curious about those tags too! 2y

This was a fun and steamy story with Kareena Mann wanting to have a love story like her parents but finding it hard to find a guy. Then Dr Prem Verna a surgeon with a radio show looking for donors for his health centre. They have chemistry but it doesn't run so smoothly their relationship.

4.5/5

A very enjoying retelling of The Taming of the Shrew where Kareena is a lawyer looking for a love marriage as well as a way to keep her mother's home, and Dr. Prem Verma is a cardiologist who doesn't believe in love but does believe in his community clinic. The fastest way to get money to meet their goals will be to fake an engagement to one another.

I'm very excited for the next book, which is a Much Ado About Nothing retelling.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. The basic premise was fun and interesting. Nisha was fine. She was trying to make the best of a not great situation. It was Dr. Dil that I could barely tolerate. He pushed Nisha into publicly dating. She clearly stated why the only person who would lose if things failed was her and he just kept going for what would work for him. This Taming of the Shrew retelling just didn‘t sit right with me.

Prem and Kareena meet in a bar, it‘s going great until it‘s not. Next they‘re fighting on livestream. But that spark is still there. Now they both need money and an engagement would accomplish that for both of them. oh this is a yes baby. enemies to lovers and they ACTUALLY are enemies, not just dislike each other. fake dating (kinda bc they‘re basically in love the whole time). steamyyyy 🌶. Desi rep. it‘s all so good.

Hmmm. This one was way too steamy for me. I loved the female characters in this book. The men, particularly the lead 😬 I am not so sure about. Lots to like overall and some real irritations too. She set up the next stories really well though and I think I‘ll head back to see how Kareena‘s friends get on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Very cute story - with the exception to the references to “Charlie” which were exceptionally cringeworthy #iykyk 🤷🏽‍♀️

What does love look like? How does it speak? This romance was quite the page turner with a great cast of characters including a gaggle of fabulous Aunties. It was a bit of a stretch to see how long it took this smart, independent attorney to stand up for herself. But it made the story all the sweeter when she found her agency. I loved all the food and cultural references! Spicy hero too!

I love contemporary romances featuring a couple who is established in their lives and careers. The author even uses the term “competence porn” in the book. So accurate! Kareena is such a strong character who will not compromise on what she wants for her love life. And Prem is such a hottie struggling with his own feelings. And the Auntys. All the Auntys!!!
