Intriguing premise that keeps you guessing. But I didn't like the reasoning, the how, the why, the justification. Not quite convincing.

A list with nine names arrives in the mail and that‘s it. What would you do if your name was on the list? It‘s all good until one by one they die. A fast read is sometimes a good read and I loved the nice neat ending. Never did like Peter Pan! Read it and you will get that.
9 people receive a list of names in the mail in which their own name is on it. They start to die one by one. The FBI is trying to catch the killer before the list is finished. Yes - it is like And Then There Were None (which is also referenced in the book) - except it is not a locked room mystery. The ending (killer and reason) is very good. Overall, a perfect and respectful nod to Christie!

I really enjoy this author, but this was not very good. Last book for #scarathlon @LiseWorks

Clearly very influence by ‘And Then There Were None‘ but why not?! That was a classic 😊
I noticed quite a few not great reviews but it kept me entertained on my #audiowalks so it‘s a pick for me.
Peter Swanson must be a big fan of Agatha Christie. This book is similar to her book And Then There Were None. This isn‘t one of his best books. It was a bit slow and, since I was listening to the audiobook, it was difficult for me to keep up with all the names (Not the author‘s fault.) There are 9 names on the list and each person receives the list. As anyone would, they wonder why is someone after me? Why are there 9 names and not 10?
“If you‘re on the list, someone wants you dead.
From the New York Times bestselling author of Eight Perfect Murders comes the heart-pounding story of nine strangers who receive a cryptic list with their names on it—and then begin to die in highly unusual circumstances.”
Getting caught up on my book journals
I enjoyed this modern spin on Christie‘s “And Then There Were None” and blew through this audio in an afternoon of #audiopuzzling. I liked the reveal of the bad guy, but the reasoning was a little bit of a reach.
Couple twisty, murder-y books for my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin. Yay!
This is a low pick for me. I enjoyed the sketches of each of the names on the list and whilst clearly the author embraced how similar the set up is to Agatha Christie‘s And then there were none it felt flat in comparison #pantone2023 #tangelo
Book 10📚 2.5⭐️
A reimagined “And Then There Were None”. Some of the characters made my skin crawl and not in a good way.
Overall an ok story but mediocre for this classic trope.
Really somewhere between so-so and a pick. Kept us entertained during our drive this past weekend and it was the perfect length. I appreciated the Agatha Christie inspiration and references, but found the reveal, particularly the motivation and reasoning behind it, disappointing. I‘d still be willing to try another Swanson in the future.
Book 1 of 2023 complete. Happy New Years Litsy. I really enjoy Peter Swanson books and this one was reminiscent of “And Then There We‘re None”.
Nine people receive a list in the mail with 8 other names. They don‘t recognize any of the names until bad things start happening to the folks on the list. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
9 people receive a list of names in the mail each of their own names are on the list and one by one they start dying. It was a mesmerising read for me. I was trying to find links between the characters and solve the case myself, but as usual Peter Swanson had me guessing up until the very end. Dark characters, people with secrets, and twists that unravel slowly, I was here for it all. Another great read from this author.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Had this out, read up to the last hour of it so slowly that it got returned. It came back to me...twice. I finally gave up the ?. I did not get into this. All the characters seemed uninteresting and I couldn't care about them living or not. Why they are all being targeted was more intriguing but when there is an hr left and really nothing has been "discovered" about it, it feels like a useless thread. Oh well
Nine seemingly unconnected strangers each receive the same list of names. Then, one by one, they start dying.
This slow burning mystery was a fun read with definite 'And Then There Were None' vibes, which I love, but the number of different POVs was a bit overwhelming at times - luckily they narrow down as the story progresses! 😁
🎧 currently listening. Swanson is always hit or miss for me so I‘m hoping to like this one! 🎧
Feeling pretty "eh" about this one. I like that Swanson always seems to try new things. But had I known that this was inspired by Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" I would have been a lot less likely to read it, as I seem to be one of the few folks not into her stuff (and I will never be able to get the original title of that book out of my head). Anywho, this is a fast paced, quick read with a bunch of people to keep track of. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
3¼⭐
I wanted to like this more than I did. I‘m not sure if it was the way it was narrated (by one narrator) or the bleak manner in which it was told. I think, overall, I wanted something different than what I got from this story…although if I look at it a different way…the ending did feel complete like everything came full circle. Of course, it was still completely f*cked up.
Because I knew this was an homage to a specific Agatha Christie book, it was easy to predict where the plot of Nine Lives would go, but I still enjoyed it. I‘ve read two Swanson titles and they‘ve both involved books as a plot device; I like that. The characters were difficult to connect with, for the most part, but I think that‘s deliberate. I started The Messy Lives of Book people on my walk today. #audiowalk
I liked Eight Perfect Murders, so I thought I‘d make this one my new walking book. I‘m a few chapters in, and I‘m liking it so far. Just a short walk today. My air conditioner isn‘t working and being hot all day made me too tired to do anything. Still waiting on the AC guy; I hope he actually comes this evening. #audiowalk

Nine people around the country receive a list of names in the mail (including their own) and start dying one by one. They have never met and seem to have no connection at all so why is this happening? This was interesting and kept me reading but it isn't my favorite of his books. I'll explain in a spoiler comment ⬇️
#TwoForTuesday I‘m about to start the tagged book. I don‘t know that it‘s the book I‘m most excited to read but it‘s the next one I‘ll be reading.
It doesn‘t matter if there is music in the background because I tune it out while I read.
It was ok. Somewhat figureoutable. The twist was not super shocking but if i remember right I've felt the same about all his books. 9 strangers on a list.. start to be murdered.. but how are they connected? Very Agatha Christie inspired. 3.5 🌟
Nine people are on a list to be killed with apparently nothing in common. Tied things up well at the end, but I could never keep all the characters straight.
Finished my first book for May's #bookspinbingo. Boy, was this a let down. This was pretty uneventful until the end. Or maybe it's just that it lacked the overall suspense I came to expect. I gave it 3 stars because the writing wasn't terrible, the story just didn't deliver.

The pick for Aprils book for #thebooktroop book club! Starting this one suuuper late but exited to get to it!
This book was also so much fun! I could not put it down, read it all in a day, I just could not stop consuming this. I don't get the hate, it was such a fun time! And I did not guess the twist and this book caught me off gaurd a few times! I only took off a star because those last few pages! It should have been left where it was! Those last pages just kinda ruined the ambiance for me. 4/5 stars!
Just meh to me. If you have ever read Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, this book is very similar to it. A few changes, but I didn't think a whole lot.
I like Peter Swanson, but this wasn't one of his best books at least to me.
Highly recommend this one! I read it all today and thoroughly enjoyed it. At first I thought it would be hard to keep all the characters straight but it wasn‘t. There was a major thing in the plot that I didn‘t anticipate at all! I‘ve liked all of this author‘s books (this was my 3rd or 4th).
Peter Swanson is a hit-or-miss author for me so I was pleased to enjoy this latest novel. This is one of the better reimaginings of And Then There Were None that I've read and, being a fan of the original, I felt that this did it justice. I did figure it out before the end but it didn't detract from any of the fun of reading it. 5/5 stars
Well, my friends and family know me and my bookish ways pretty well! For my birthday yesterday I received a great selection of books, puzzles, notebooks, pencils, and book gift cards! ☺️ These are some of the books I specifically asked for that my aunt gave me. Where to start? I also of course already HAD like 10 books waiting to be read… but that‘s ok!
A solid mystery/thriller. I always love Swanson‘s books. They keep my attention. The author has a way of using limited book space but still making a character feel real/likeable. He doesn‘t go over the top with detailed or flowery descriptions so I never feel like I‘m taken out of the urgency of the story. Really enjoyed this one! The author is one of my favourites.
Sometimes I forget how much I love a good mystery thriller, but this one reminded me. It is super fast paced, the author certainly didn't stretch anything out for a higher page count. I almost wish it had slowed down a bit and gave us more clues and time to figure out the mystery. But is was a fun ride anyway.
I finished this one in a day. Pretty good. I read it quickly bc I wanted to know what was going on.
