"From the New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box and Malorie Josh Malerman comes the legend of a strange new monster unlike any other in horror. There's something strange about Walter Kopple's farm. At first it seems to be his grandson, who cruelly murders one of Walter's pigs in an act of seemingly senseless violence. But then the rumors begin--people in town whisper that Walter's grandson heard a voice that commanded him to kill. And that the voice belongs to a most peculiar creature: Walter's pig, Pearl. Walter is not sure what to believe. He knows that he's always been afraid of the strangely malevolent Pearl. But as madness and paranoia grip the town and the townspeople descend on Walter's farm with violent wrath, Walter begins to wonder if true evil wears a human face"--

Weird story about a telepathic pig that terrorizes an entire small town from his farm. It definitely had some unnerving parts but at some point around 75% I was just ready for it to be done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘m really not sure how to feel about this story. Very odd but strangely captivating.

I loved Pearl. #netgalley gave me an ARC and I devoured it. Pearl is a telepathic, intelligent, and malevolent pig who terrorizes a small farming community. It‘s in your face gruesomeness with zero attempt to explain how this is possible…you just jump on this wild ride and hang on. I thought it was pretty brilliant. Not for those bothered by gore and graphic horror. #firstsnow #alreadymelted

My favorite part of the book was in the opening, when Malerman mentioned the town of Goblin. I love it when author's write different books set in the same universe.

Books about mutant animals or nature gone wrong are my favorite genre. Pearl is a formidable opponent, although I was still rooting for the humans to prevail. I liked the way this was written and how everyone knows there is something wrong with Pearl but tries to ignore it.

This book sounds fascinating, and the writing is easy to follow. I read as far as I could go but cutting up animals and Satanic stuff is not for me. It wasn't in graphic detail so the animal stuff isn't that bad, but I didn't read the whole book.

Bird Box was truly terrifyingly with its unknown existential threat. In this, Malerman‘s newest novel, the threat is called out from the very beginning — a telepathic pig named Pearl. Pearl can plan, organize and make animals and people do her evil bidding. The end goal is for the pigs to take over the farm exacting revenge to everyone and everything that gets in the way of Pearl‘s plan. More gruesome than Bird Box but equally as disturbing.

Soscha So…it‘s vegan-friendly? Because I always root for the farm animals. 🐖 (edited) 3y
