Subpar Parks: America's Most Extraordinary National Parks and Their Least Impressed Visitors | Amber Share
17 posts | 9 read | 16 to read
**A New York Times Bestseller!** Based on the wildly popular Instagram account, Subpar Parks features both the greatest hits and brand-new content, all celebrating the incredible beauty and variety of America's national parks juxtaposed with the clueless and hilarious one-star reviews posted by visitors. Subpar Parks, both on the popular Instagram page and in this humorous, informative, and collectible book, combines two things that seem like they might not work together yet somehow harmonize perfectly: beautiful illustrations and informative, amusing text celebrating each national park paired with the one-star reviews disappointed tourists have left online. Millions of visitors each year enjoy Glacier National Park, but for one visitor, it was simply Too cold for me! Another saw the mind-boggling vistas of Bryce Canyon as Too spiky! Never mind the person who visited the thermal pools at Yellowstone National Park and left thinking, "Save yourself some money, boil some water at home." Featuring more than 50 percent new material, the book will include more depth and insight into the most popular parks, such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and Acadia National Parks; anecdotes and tips from rangers; and much more about author Amber Share's personal love and connection to the outdoors. Equal parts humor and love for the national parks and the great outdoors, it's the perfect gift for anyone who loves to spend time outside as well as have a good read (and laugh) once they come indoors.

“Within National Parks is room-glorious room-room in which to find ourselves, in which to think and hope, to dream and plan, to rest and resolve.” ~Enos Mills

I‘ve been following Amber Share on Instagram for quite awhile so I was especially excited to get this from @wideeyedreader for Mother‘s Day. I loved it ❤️

So I read this out loud to my family while on a day trip. We laughed so hard it hurt many times. They've seen the Grand Canyon and even at a young age could describe it better than a "big hole in the ground". It's really comical in an almost meme sort of way that people can be so unimpressed by the beauty we are lucky to have within America's Most Extraordinary National Parks.

I am the least outdoorsy person I know but after reading about these amazing places I want to do all the things. I also really enjoyed the artwork because of the not quite minimalist nature of it.

#BookReport
Managed to only finish one book this week but I'm at least half way through three others. I don't think I've juggled this many books for a long time so I'm a little out of practice.

#WeeklyForecast
My goal is to try and finish all three of my current reads but I'll be happy if I hit two. Zoe has to be finished by Tuesday so I'm pretty sure I'll hit that goal. My poor BookSpin keeps getting pushed further and further back.

#BlameItOnLitsy but I was excited to find my hold for this came in at work today. I also feel this review encapsulates my feelings about our programming this month because of the Great Backyard Bird Count happening. We have these ridiculously large (life sized) birds on our walls for a scavenger hunt.

HeyT I will say though I am taking Good Vibes [Green]Heron home with me at the end of the program. 2y

I was DYING of laughter the entire time, it amazes me that people say the things they say about some of the most beautiful places in America. Plus, there were some pretty cool things about some parks I didn't know and was happy to learn about. But, I believe that Acadia National Park will always be my favorite. #nature #nationalparks #nonfiction

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this quick read. Beautifully illustrated, each park is nicely highlighted. The author does a nice job of using humor to reveal the silliness behind the 1 star reviews.

I found this 1 star review of Yellowstone to be particularly amusing.

ChaoticMissAdventures 😂😂. How bizarre! Yellowstone is gorgeous, and my boiled water at home never has those nice killer acid colors! 2y
Vivlio_Gnosi Right? I keep looking for rainbows 🌈 in my pots but so far nothing as beautiful as Yellowstone! 2y

Great to see a local artist achieve national success on the Goodreads Choice Awards of 2021. Art based on 1 star reviews of national parks which she started doing on a lark during the first lockdown of the Covids!!

BkClubCare Oh good! Was meaning to search for this after you mentioned 3y
Nutmegnc @BkClubCare She made it to the final round! 3y

So I‘m not a huge National Park traveler but I‘ve recently become more interested. This book was an informative book on National Parks with actual reviews by unimpressed visitors. It was funny, but sad that so many are unimpressed. #nationalparks #humor
