Author Erica Buist unexpectedly loses her father in law which prompts an in depth research project into the worlds death festivals. From Mexico to Japan, she visits seven different festivals in hopes of coming to terms with her loved one‘s passing and the realization we‘re all gonna end up there ourselves. Loved reading about the different cultures celebrations🖤

When the author‘s soon to be father in law died suddenly, she was deeply affected by his passing. Determined to overcome her fear of death and dying, she decided to attend seven different cultural celebrations in widely diverse nations to see how human mortality is handled. This may sound very solemn and gloomy, but this book is quite humorous in places. Very uplifting. Highly recommended.

I loved this! Such a good reflection on our relationship (or lack thereof) with death through the lens of a grieving woman and 7 death festivals from around the world. I enjoyed getting a look into different cultures and how they approach mortality and the afterlife. Emotional, eye opening and wonderfully funny at the the right moments. I read this in one sitting. Would highly recommend to fans of Caitlin Doughty.
