No. 1 international bestseller and Swedish crime sensation Camilla Lackberg's new psychological thriller featuring Detective Patrick Hedstrom and Erica Falck - irresistible for fans of Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo. YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE PAST Easter 1974. A family vanishes from their home on an idyllic island off the Swedish coast. They have left everything behind - including their one-year-old daughter, Ebba. Now, years later, Ebba has returned to the island. She and her husband have suffered the loss of their only child and are looking to make a fresh start. But within days, their house is the target of an arson attack. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE THE FUTURE Detective Patrik Hedstrom takes on the investigation, aided by his wife, crime writer Erica Falck, who has always been fascinated by the mystery of Ebba's abandonment and the family's tragic history. When dried blood is found under the floorboards of the old house, it seems that the cold case involving the missing family is about to be brought back to life. And soon, Patrik and Erica are consumed by the hunt for a killer who will stop at nothing to keep the past buried...

Pickpick

To be honest, when I started reading this it felt like a copy paste from her previous book; a mystery on an island in the past that need to be solved and a lot of the same people too. But I think it improved as I read, and I didn‘t see that ending. So this is a really weak pick.

#NordicNoir
1st book finished for #AwesomeAugust

EadieB I like her books too but some of the happenings do seem like repeats. 4y
Andrew65 Agree great similarities in books @EadieB 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I wish Erica was back working as her motherhood gets overplayed too! 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Totally agree. 4y

Pickpick

I feel some parts were repetitive of Lackberg's past mysteries. Shame of abuse, The Friends of Sweden's racism, secrets, etc. It was still a good story, overall.

Day 3 #20Series20Days @Andrew65 My first introduction to #NordicNoir A few years ago, my library hosted a Blind Date with a Book and I unwrapped The Ice Princess. At the time, it was unlike anything I had ever read. @Tove_Reads @EadieB @AnneCecilie

Andrew65 I loved The Ice Princess 4y
Butterfinger @Andrew65 did you notice the similarities between The Ice Princess and this one? Especially the child abuse and hiding it because of shame. 4y
Andrew65 @Butterfinger Yes as you said some of these are now becoming recurring themes. 4y

A bit late but starting the August Camilla Lackberg book for #NordicNoir

Tove_Reads I just started the next one. Seriously annoyed about reading about how hard it is to be a parent... 4y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads That does figure a lot. 4y

Butterfinger Just keep the story on Erika and Patrik and let the others support them instead of having their own lives would make the experience better for me. 4y

Butterfinger I don't see them as relevant. I like that certain characters came back like Kjell. I liked him fighting his father and the racist party from the previous book. I can't remember the title. I ty Lachberg makes her books as if it is a tv show w 4y
Butterfinger So she has to create all these lives to make it more interesting. She doesn't. 4y

Butterfinger I'm glad she did. It moved the plot and that is where I want Erika. I think Patrik is starting to s to that too. 4y

Butterfinger Whoa! Obsessing over a Nazi - even after he was indicted during the Nuremberg Trials. So obnoxious and arrogant and she needed to stay hospitalized. 4y
Butterfinger Lachberg creates the most unlikable and unrelatable characters. 4y

Butterfinger She is in torment and I knew she would hook up with someone because she is so bitter toward Dan. I didn't see how insane Tobias was going to be. 4y

Butterfinger I had no idea. I kept thinking, "where's the blood?" till Patrik mentioned it was before CSI caliber. I thought the boys took them to the lake. That last twist of Ia was wild. 4y

Butterfinger I had a feeling it was Gosta sending the cards to Ebba. I'm glad Lachberg revved him up as a character. He loves children so much. Maybe, Patrik and Erica won't have so many problems if they use Gosta as a babysitter. 4y

#JubilantJuly #readathon Decided to dig into this and read 9 books, although I‘m fully booked on both Saturdays. I have chosen several fast reads from the to-be-read-immediately pile. The tagged one I have as an ebook. Will further 3 series, read 4 books for my #readingtheworld challenge and read the last Follett I‘ve been able to find. Bring it on!

Cathythoughts Gorgeous pic ✨ 4y
Andrew65 That‘s the beauty of a long Readathon, you can work it around other commitments. Will be great to have you with us. 4y

And my series reading of Lackberg continues. She definitely has a formula and children are always involved (trigger warning) but I can‘t seem to stop. I like the glimpses into the detectives lives outside of the case.

Lcsmcat I‘m listening to Ice Princess on my commute and thought it was a stand alone. Where does it fall in the series? 7y
Moonpa @Lcsmcat it‘s the first one! You‘re good! 7y
Lcsmcat @Moonpa Thanks! 7y
