One of the richest men in Edinburgh is found dead in bed with traces of arsenic in his stomach. His son is accused of the murder but Raven's new fiancée believes him to be innocent and asks him to investigate.

Despite some well-worn tropes, the mystery all came together nicely enough but the social and medical background are still what attracts me to this series.

Sooo this was the worst book out of the trilogy. It only good thing was that it tied everything with a nice giant bow. My favorite character is Sarah fisher - that women is hella awesome! Overall, a good solid series. This book 3 out of 5. Series is a 5 out of 5, because I want to own this series.

How do ya'll read so fast? o.o I have checked out too many books from the library and I can't seem to catch up. I can't help grabbing the book when it's calling so I know I got more than 1 problem.

Why does this series make me wanna stay awake and fall asleep at the same time?! I just wanna binge it!

Good thing bout it being like that is that I can read it with migraines and headaches which is very impressive.

The series gets better and better and this story about Edinbruh finished with the best book best in the series in my opinion.

I love the attention to small details that really helps to create an authentic time & place. 19th Century Edinburgh is full of energy. Corruption, class division, gender restriction, love & innovation shape the decision making of characters both familiar & new. It's a page turner that feels like you can smell the laboratory bench varnish and the salt air off the Frith. Can't wait to go on more adventures across the city with Sarah and Raven.

Seems the perfect blanket to cosy up with for this Scottish based mystery! Pre pandemic I used to love #readingonlocation perhaps I‘ll now #dressforreading instead!

Another good book in this historical crime fiction, we continue to learn about Will and Sarah, their lives and another murder they get involved with and attempt to solve. Set in Victorian Edinburgh.

And it's a wrap = book 3 of the series read/listened to.

This time Raven and Fisher try to find a missing baby, a baby farmer, the murderer of a philanthropist, and need to sort out their relationship.

Loved the historical notes at the end of the book.

I'm making an early start on the #NovelNovember #readathon. It's roughly 4 hours away, in my time zone.

I read this so quickly I didn‘t have time to shelve it as Currently Reading 😂 This is my favourite book in the series. I love the setting and the medical details. Pairs nicely with The Doctors Blackwell, by Janice P. Nimura; Elizabeth Blackwell makes an appearance in this book.

Will and Sarah continue their grisly yet somehow adorable adventures! This was my favorite of the three books so far, so fun and engaging! I have listened to the audio books and Bryan Dick is a wonderful reader, I really cannot rate his performance highly enough! I wish this would be made into a TV series (has it?) also, don‘t miss the afterward on this one, it talks about what parts were based on factual history, I loved it!

There should be a law that states all books must have pretty end papers - maps preferred! 🤣🤣🤣

I really enjoyed book 1 in this series, have yet to read book 2 but happy to be gifted book 3! I‘m fascinated by these authors - Ambrose Parry is the pen name for a husband and wife writing team - one a famous author and one a highly regarded anaesthetist!

While I was invested in the mysteries within this third in series, I wasn‘t quite as happy with the progression of relationships. There are actually two cases that are interconnected, one involves the death of a wealthy but unscrupulous man, the other, missing babies. Warning, there are very dark issues here, I‘ll mention in spoiler below. The connection between Dr. Raven and Sarah becomes a bit convoluted and takes an unexpected turn 🔻

For it to be so sudden and without any preceding illness, assume it must have been his heart,' Simpson suggested. 'Which is remarkable in itself for being proof that he had one.'

James,' Mrs Simpson admonished. He was a generous donor to the hospitals of this city.'

Always great to be back in the world of Will Raven. Plus i love the connection between him and Sarah. She is also an amazing character. I still want them to get their happy after but I love that he wasn't willing to keep her from her dreams, he supports them which is so refreshing. The mystery itself was well written and cleverly put together. I had figured out some bits but not all and i really enjoyed how it came to together. #Netgalley 5*

This is a fabulous series & this, the third installment, is probably my favourite so far. It's just hugely enjoyable. It's a murder mystery with a complex and convoluted non-slushy romance (Sarah & Raven are the Ross & Rachel of Victorian Edinburgh) and an engaging, well constructed plot that twists & turns at a cracking pace. The characters are like old friends now & I found the whole thing compelling & satisfying. Can't wait for the next one!

Just about to start this one. This series is just an absolute joy and it makes me want to romp round Edinburgh solving crime in Victorian dress!
