The Many Deaths of Laila Starr #1
The Many Deaths of Laila Starr #1 | V. Ram
8 posts | 5 read | 15 to read
A powerful new series for fans of The Wicked + The Divine and The Dreaming from Ram V (Justice League Dark) and Filipe Andrade (Captain Marvel) that explores the fine line between living and dying in Mumbai through the lens of magical realism. * With humanity on the verge of discovering immortality, the avatar of Death is fired and relegated to the world below to live out her now-finite days in the body of twenty-something Laila Starr in Mumbai. * Struggling with her new-found mortality, Laila has found a way to be placed in the time and place where the creator of immortality will be born... * But will Laila take her chance to permanently reverse the course of (future) history...or does a more shocking fate await her?

“This is the miracle. This place, the sand, the sky, the sea beyond. No grand magic, just a quiet breath taken to yourself.”
I am. . In love with this graphic novel. It made me stop and contemplate life, death and the things in between. Very hopeful and beautiful and fun!
This was my #bookspin pick for March!

First line: “It began on a Wednesday afternoon as a late December sun was just dipping below the Mumbai skyline”

What a story! I was moved and loved the story's theme of life and death. Do we ponder the effects of life and death, and how it changes us through out time?
I adored this part of the story, an intimate space, yet life changing moment. Thanks for sharing this Court 😄 @Moonprismpower

Started reading lmpbc from @Moonprismpower yesterday. Can't wait to dive into the rest of it, and thank you for the candy Court! #groupG #graphicnovels #scifi #weekendreading @LibrarianRyan @BethM

Moonprismpower I hope you like the book. 😃 3y
BethM @LibrarianRyan I haven‘t received yours yet. 3y
LibrarianRyan @BethM nope. I‘m mailing it Monday. I am so behind. I won‘t be able to get to the post office today because of an all day union meeting and last week was full of prepping for a library conference. But it will be mailed priority on Monday 3y
BethM @LibrarianRyan no worries! 3y

Finally adding my notes to my #lmpbc read! While eating twizzlers. What is your favorite nostalgic candy from childhood? @phantomx @LibrarianRyan @BethM
@suvata
@magyklyXdelish tagging you cuz I miss you! Have a good Sunday ❤️

magyklyXdelish Aw I miss you too. I promise I will try to write soon 😭😭 also my fave childhood candies were those candy dots and sixlets ♥️ 3y
Soubhiville My dad always had Necco wafers in his car, so while I don‘t think they‘re a particularly tasty candy I have fond memories of them. I really liked Bottle Caps, Spree, and Skittles. 3y
LibrarianRyan Zebra stipe gum and the large chewable sweet tarts. We used to get the sweet tarts at the pool on the hourly breaks. We could buy four packs with pocket change and each of use would eat just one per break and eat the last on on the walk or bike home. Ummm 3y

inthegreensandblues There are certain candies that I liked but never had other than from my Halloween bucket: Sprees, Smarties, Tootsie rolls... 3y
BethM Twizzlers for sure, peanut butter mms, Reese‘s pieces - we‘d only get those on Easter. 3y
phantomx Hubba Bubba, Big League Chew, Zebra Stripe, and Sour Skittles. I didn't eat much candy as a kid, but I liked having a stash of candy 3y

Absolutely obsessed with this new comic from BOOM. The goddess of death is fired and becomes a mortal woman who has some trouble staying alive. The artwork is stunning and the story is fascinating.

Kimberlone The colors are gorgeous! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds excellent! 3y

This series is outstanding and this cover is friggen 🔥

Death is fired from her job and made to live a mortal life. This whole issue is from the POV of a burning cigarette.

I know it sounds weird - but I loved everything about it.

Can't reccomend this series enough! 🤘

mariaku21 Ok this sounds weird but interesting! 4y
