Cute story about complex feelings with a super cute ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
In this friends-to-lovers romance, sporty Avery is forced to slow down after unexpected circumstances cause her to relive her worst nightmare. Her roommate & best friend, Declan, steps up to help as much as he can. While the conflict is predictable, the communication between the couple is straightforward. It‘s a plausible and light read- though not quite as funny as I had hoped it would be! Three sisters are at the heart of this start to a series!
I didn‘t love this one. The romance between Declan and Avery seems forced which only makes the intimate scenes between them super awkward. I found myself rushing through this book just to get to the end. I already preordered the sequel but I‘m going to cancel it since the book centers around Avery‘s sister London, whom I find very annoying.
3/5
This is a cute friends to lovers romance. Declan and Avery are forced to re-evaluate their friendship after Declan takes care of Avery while she recovers from a car accident that left her with a broken arm and leg. I enjoyed the first two thirds or so of the book, but I felt like the main conflict was entirely Declan's fault and it made it hard for me to root for him for the last bit of the book.
Friends to lovers #Romance.
Friends and flatmates notice they have more than platonic feelings for each other when Avery has a car accident and Declan nurses her 24/7.
Some of the plot felt forced, like the inevitable fight and break-up.
Why did Hunting call the male MC Declan McCormick? That's the name of the MC in Julia Kent's Shopping for a Billionaire series.
Needed a light pallet cleanser after my previous read this was just the ticket. Easily defined trope friends to lovers, open door romance. I did specifically enjoy the scavenger hunt as it felt similar to my own proposal. Also liked that there was clear positivity towards caring for mental health even years after the trauma occured, it was not a taboo topic.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ This was the romance I needed to fall into today. More emotional than I thought it would be but it hit the sweet spot!
hanks to #partner @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the digital ARC of Helena Hunting's When Sparks Fly in exchange for an honest review. The book will be out on September 21!
When Sparks Fly is a friends-to-lovers, open door romance about Avery Spark and Declan McCormick who have been friends since the first day of college and roommates for years. ⬇
Friends-to-lovers trope. Avery and Declan have been besties since college and now have bought a condo together as roomies. When Avery is injured in an accident which Declan blames himself for, he takes on caregiver duty until she‘s back on her feet. Things progress, but will it ruin their friendship. Mixed thoughts here. I enjoyed their friendship and seeing Declan‘s growth in seeking help for trust issues. But I found the way they moved into 🔻
Cute, but not my favourite of hers. The friends to lovers trope was fun and I loved reading about a girl who was athletic and enjoyed sports and junk food, plus had make besties. But then the ending kind of screeched into this weird zone for me and ended really sweet. Too sweet for me, but happy ending folks will enjoy it!
