A a well-told story, but nothing too original. In some cases, I found it overly contrived as I didn't believe that old movie stars like Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Cary Grant would be trapped in endless sexual weirdness in a Hollywood canyon. But Barker creates characters you care about and the premise of a hellish world built from tiles alone is intriguing. It was a couple hundred pages too long, but they went awfully fast.
