Road of Bones | 
so-soGhosts of gulag prisoners. The cruel Siberian winter. Drawn to this unknown: an American reality television director and British cameraman. As the story progresses, locals are introduced only to be reduced. The gulag ghosts are set dressing; forces of old worship provide actions. Not sure how faithful the story is to the folklore tradition (a minus). The characters are secondary. Not what I expected, but a good story. Intense, and a quick read.
so-soThere are ghosts, parnees, Forrest gods, a road that has more than a million of bodies who died into and all of it feels squandered as we view it all through a foreigner to Siberia with a guilt complex. There was no magic in this and the writing felt paint by numbers. What does it tell you when in the middle of it I was like I don‘t want to read this anymore. So what are you gonna do, Reg? Dishes? And then I went and did dishes. It was meh.
pickSo that was a quick read interesting and terrifying at the same time. Terrifying because some of things that are in the book is relevant (I.e: the cold and the icy conditions scary) so I recommend reading this as it was a great read
pickSpooky and ethereal read. Took an interesting direction and was a very quick finish. My only caveat is how often the author had to describe the cold. We got it, Siberia is cold. Granted, I‘ve only experienced bone-chilling, unable to breathe, cold once before and hated it.

Poppy thought a book called Road of Bones would be right up her alley, but apparently it couldn't keep her awake.
pickThe main character, Teig, is searching for spirit contact in any capacity that will finally give him the peace of mind that his little sister is still with him. He‘s devoted his life to it. Confident that the Koylma road is heavy with energy due to its origins and will provide something from the spirit world, he quickly finds out this isn‘t what he signed up for. If you enjoy pagan lore, you‘ll enjoy this book.
pickThis fast read kept me on my toes and turning pages! Tieg and Prentiss are filming a documentary about Siberia‘s Road of Bones but are thrown off course by a parnee, supernatural wolves, and antlered beings. Add a strange little girl who may not be what she appears and it wasn‘t just the arctic setting with subzero temps that kept my hair standing on end! Interesting folklore and I learned a bit about the gulags and local people of Siberia. 4/5⭐️
Today‘s view: thriller, Bloody Caesar, relaxed dog and husband. Spring break is a wonderful thing.

pickI really enjoyed this read. If you are looking for horror, this may not be the book for you. But if you are looking for a face paced book that will have your heart racing, give it a try! 😊 I felt the cold atmosphere and even googled some things about Siberia to understand some of the lore. 🌟🌟🌟💫

so-soI read this book after Stephen King recommended it on his Twitter. It was a cool plot with some interesting characters but I felt the story dragged a bit. The ending wrapped everythjng up but wasn't as good as I had hoped.
pickI am fascinated with cold environments and the people who live there, but traveling the Road of Bones in the dead of winter does not sound like a good idea to me. It is so cold that if your car breaks down, there is a very real possibility that you will freeze to death before you are found. It just seems crazy to voluntarily go there. Although some of the locals they profile seem to like life out there.
I enjoyed reading this book.
pickI can‘t believe it took this long for someone to write a horror novel about the road of bones but I‘m so glad he did. I can‘t wait for the inevitable movie.
so-soThis had a lot going for it to make it a spectacular horror novel but it fell flat for me. After awhile I found it boring and was disappointed (especially since there is a quote from Stephen King on the cover).
pickThe fact that the Road of Bones itself is (tragically) a real location where Soviet prisoners perished in the bitter cold and would be buried right there on the very road they were building lends an additional layer of creepiness to this story about a documentary TV producer & his pal who head to Siberia to explore the haunted Road of Bones.
Nothing good happens. Lots of weird encounters. And it's f#*^ing COLD!
A quick, fun and scary read.
so-soThis book had a lot going for it: set in Siberia, atmosphere, mad cover love. I liked Teig and Prentiss‘ friendship and Teig‘s sad backstory. Ludmilla fell flat for me and my interest in the horror waxed and waned. Plus I though the language barrier between characters set up in the first half was too easily resolved in the second.
pickThis book had a lot of terror and action. I liked the way the parnee, a spirit of the woods was described. The only thing that was a little unclear was the origin of the evil force.
I admit I'm holding off finishing Road of Bones until Weds as we are going to have a foot of snow dumped on us. I think it can only enhance the book's setting. :)

With natural dangers in every direction from the cold alone, it all becomes even eerier when they reach one town to find it abandoned…covering a short span of time, this makes for a chilling read!

A filmmaker and his friend travel to the Road of Bones hoping to uncover a great story and save their careers. What they find is unlike anything they expected.
This book has some truly terrifying moments. The descriptions of the setting will chill you to the bone as much as the forest spirits that set upon a remote village hunting for one young girl.
Really enjoyed this one.
