3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
From Super Bowl champion and literacy crusader Malcolm Mitchell comes an exciting new story that shows even reluctant readers that there is a book out there for everyone! Meet Henley, an all-around good kid, who hates to read. When he's supposed to be reading, he would rather do anything else. But one day, he gets the scariest homework assignment in the world: find your favorite book to share with the class tomorrow. What's a kid to do? How can Henley find a story that speaks to everything inside of him? Malcolm Mitchell, bestselling author of The Magician's Hat, pulls from his own literary triumph to deliver another hilarous and empowering picture book for readers of all abilities. Through his advocacy and his books, Malcolm imparts the important message that every story has the potential to become a favorite.

I don't follow the sports, but my kids do. Instead of reading this out loud to them, I showed the video where he reads it in celebration of 🌎 read aloud day that same week. #WCCPBA 2023 nominee #underthedustcover

TheKidUpstairs Mitchell has such an amazing story, his journey to literacy is both inspiring and heartbreaking. My kids love his first: 2y
mandarchy @TheKidUpstairs that's a great book too. When I first read it, I had no idea who the author was or his back ground story. 2y

Malcolm Mitchell is a football player from my hometown and he loves to get kids excited about reading. (He played for the University of Georgia and then for the Patriots). He is hosting a read aloud! https://www.readwithmalcolm.com/readcamp/?fbclid=IwAR2ormFzwuRLmQj3E6owK9gXL6VNd...

This MF book is a sweet story that I think a lot of students can relate to. The main character is struggling to find his favorite book which many students might also be struggling with. Not everyone has an immediate connection to books and they need a little encouragement. https://www.readingrockets.org/article/reading-aloud-build-comprehension #UCFLAE3414SP2

Emiranda this book would be a great read aloud with a comprehension focus. UDL 3.2 can be used when having students identify big events in the story. EL 14 can be used when reading the book using proper ELL reading skills like speaking slowly. 4y
Karissacurrier I love the concept of this book! I feel like students would love it as well. The UDL principle and ESOL strategy you chose work really well with the story! 4y
DrSpalding Why do you think this is modern fantasy? What happens in this book that could not happen in the real world? Your English learner and universal design principles work well. 4y
Kappadeemom See my post above yours! 3y
