A short 4 volume manga, that I was hoping was going to focus on a girl who is an ex-delinquent trying to be a housewife while keeping her past a secret. Unfortunately the story gets heavily sidetracked when her husbands younger brother falls in love with her and the entire story shifts direction and focuses on that. It has a rushed ending and Komugi as a “delinquent” was very safe in comparison to the male delinquent mangas I have read.
phantomx @Sweetkokoro Thanks for reviewing this series. I was hesitant to read this. It'll come off my list today. Oresama Teacher is the only other series I've found where a female delinquent's past comes back to haunt her and she gets involved in crazy shennigans with other gangs, her childhood crush--also a previous delinquent--and making new enemies while trying to get through high school. I flew through the volumes. 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx Welcome, I was so disappointed with this one. What level of actual delinquency would you say Oresama Teacher is? Its genre is listed as Romance Comedy. I want real delinquency like in Crows, Worst, and Clover to name a few. Majority of the ones I read focus on male characters, I have yet to find a good female one that has her do actual delinquent stuff like fights class skipping, it‘s always soft stuff like “I dyed my hair blonde!” 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx I want to see delinquent girls get in fights, break rules, ride motorcycles, have an all out war with other schools, that‘s what always happens in the male focused ones. And It‘s like it just doesn‘t exist. You get such soft delinquent girls, and I‘m tired of that lol, I don‘t want a love story haha. 4y

phantomx @Sweetkokoro I totally get you. It's really hard to find a female delinquent in manga, and its might due to Japanese culture only allowing women to rebel in certain ways (like hair dying). For Oresama Teacher, supposedly its categorized for ages 13-17, but I would say probably around age 15. It used to be published under TokyoPop, so they'd have stories that were in between genres, like Boys Love Romance and High Fantasy. 4y
phantomx @Sweetkokoro Viz Media owns the license now for Oresama Teacher, so its been recategorized as romance comedy. However, when I read it (years ago) it didn't feel romantic, more funny than romantic. The main character Mafufu's romantic goal is unrealistic and silly. Another possibility for manga not having female delinquents is that the manga world still only has a few female mangakas creating non-romance series. 4y
phantomx @Sweetkokoro The female mangakas with non-romantic series are Kazue Kato, Kohske (some of her female characters are ruthless!), Kumiko Suekane, and Aya Kanno. They have a range of female characters, especially Kohske (her series can get very mature, just as a warning). Sadly, It'll be awhile until we get a genuine female delinquent 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx I have read Kohske and Kumiko Suekane and just got ahold of Blue Exorcist by Kazue Kato. I‘ll look around for Aya Kanno. My favorite non romance female Mangaka is Kazuya Minekura, I have pretty much read everything she has ever produced and have followed her for years. But you are right it will be forever until a real delinquent female character is made. 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx I will put Oresama Teacher on my potential TBR. I feel Viz does a better job categorizing manga then Tokyopop ever did. The covers and title for Oresama Teacher just don‘t pull me in, it‘s the kind that I would normally just skip over, I read a lot of manga but I‘m also super picky about what I read haha and cutesy romance comedy just isn‘t my thing but I still try it from time to time. I love heavy action based mangas. 4y
phantomx @Sweetkokoro You're right, Viz does do a better job with genre categorization. TokyoPop was trying to be the reigning manga publishing company, but they failed horribly. Kodansha is really good with a variety of odd manga series. Instead of Oresama Teacher, try Tokyo Revengers, it's an edgier series and the main character is given a chance to go back to his days as a high school delinquent, and I think there are girls part of his gang. 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx I‘m actually in the middle of reading Tokyo Revengers, and I haven‘t come across any females in the gang yet but I‘m only around 100 chapters. You can‘t hate Tokyopop though their idea and goal was in the right place. I love what Kodansha releases, and Yen Press is another company that does a good job picking up the random manga. I tend to lean to towards the smaller companies as they have a nice variety. 4y
phantomx @SweetKokoro Hmmm...maybe the series Gangsta, it does have strong female characters that fight each other, it gets really intense. Some of the characters are involved with mob families. It does get pretty violent and the side story is dark. It might be close to what you're looking for. I'm picky on the covers and artwork too! I don't hate Tokopop, but most of the artwork was low quality (and their contracts with artists...) 4y
Sweetkokoro @phantomx Yup I have read Gangsta and love it so much! This is why I tend to gravitate towards male leads the variety is so vast. One day I‘ll find that female vibe I am hunting for. Tokyopop wasn‘t the greatest and they were the cause of their own ruination but they still helped get manga out here all those years ago and I appreciate them for that. 4y
