Marly's Ghost
Marly's Ghost | David Levithan
8 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
David Levithan, bestselling author of Every Day, gives Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol a Valentines remix When Bens girlfriend, Marly, dies, he feels his life is over and the prospect of Valentines Day without her fills him with bitterness. But then Marly arrives or at least, her ghost does along with three other spirits. Now Ben must take a journey through Valentines past, present and future and what he learns will change him forever. David Levithan is master of blending fantasy and romance, and Marlys Ghost has every bit as wonderfully strange and magical as Every Day and Another Day. David is the New York Times best-selling author of Boy Meets Boy and Marlys Ghost. While among his many collaborations are Will Grayson, Will Grayson with Fault in Our Stars author John Green, and Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist with Rachel Cohn, which became a major film. Tiny Cooper from Will Grayson, Will Grayson, now has his own novel: Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story. David is also a highly respected childrens book editor, whose list includes many luminaries of childrens literature, including Garth Nix, Libba Bray and Suzanne Collins. He lives and works in New York.

#SeasonsReadings Day 12: Marly‘s Ghost is a modern-day retelling of Charles Dickens‘ A Christmas Carol as Ben gets to meet the ghosts of lovers past, present, and future. The perfect Valentine Scrooge complete with #BahHumBug, Ben feeds his anger and his sense of isolation, & drives everyone around him away, even his best friend, Fred, all bright-eyed and good intentions. ⭐️⭐️
A re-telling of the Christmas carol based around Valentine‘s Day. I just really couldn‘t get into this book, but was a very easy read. I do love the other books by David Levithan that I‘ve read but this was my least favourite.

Huge disappointment and trying to be too politically correct. 😒

toofondofbooks @Cheshirecat913 I saw some too! I'm in South MS, so we have Japanese magnolias blossoming and trees budding already. Just not ready for tornado season 😣 7y

Picked this up in December bc I mistook it for a Christmasy book. Turns out it takes place on Valentine's Day so I saved it for this week ❤ I love Brian Selznick.
