Day of the Jackal
Day of the Jackal | Frederick Forsyth
THE CLASSIC THRILLER FROM #1 "NEW YORK TIMES" BESTSELLING AUTHOR FREDERICK FORSYTH "The Day of the Jackal" makes such comparable books such as "The Manchurian Candidate" and "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" seem like Hardy Boy mysteries. "The New York Times" The Jackal. A tall, blond Englishman with opaque, gray eyes. A killer at the top of his profession. A man unknown to any secret service in the world. An assassin with a contract to kill the world's most heavily guarded man. One man with a rifle who can change the course of history. One man whose mission is so secretive not even his employers know his name. And as the minutes count down to the final act of execution, it seems that there is no power on earth that can stop the Jackal."

This thriller starts slow then steadily picks up speed. The OAS is a terrorist organization made up of exmilitary disgruntled with the French President Charles de Gaulle. They have made several attempts to assassinate. All failed. Now they have hired a professional The Jackel. Well written and the author has a great attention to detail. I can see why this is the stardard that political thrillers aspire to.

TheSpineView The end was outstanding. 4.5 ⭐️ 14mo

Life gets so busy. So hard to finish books. But damn it, I have the day off today, and I‘m gonna finish this. It‘s on, Mr. Forsyth. Spin me the story of the Jackal, and let‘s see how the story ends….

The Day of the Jackel is still considered to be one of the best political thriller written. I read it years ago. Maybe it is time for a reread.🤔

After really trying, I missed book club last night as I‘ve been kind of poorly all week. I made it to about page 100 so I had a good go, but it was never going to be a match made in book heaven!!

This is my latest book club choice - need to read it by next Saturday! I have ages but it‘s so far out of my bookish comfort zone, there‘s every chance I won‘t finish it. I‘m on page 30 and it‘s been a struggle so far. I need you guys to tell me how great it is!!

A really thrilling book that begins with the hiring of an assassin to kill the French president and the making of his plans thereof. As the Jackal executes his plans to execute the president, "the best detective in France" is brought in to catch him before he can do so. The detective is always one step? or a few hours behind the Jackal. With his specially made long-range silenced rifle he treks around France waiting for his handpicked day.

wordzie Book 2/10 for #OWLsREADATHON; 1/10 for the #Unsolvedathon and; 1/10 for the 1/10 for the #AvengersReadathon. 6y

Chose to read this one after the overly sweetened after-taste of my previous read. Glad to say that it was a good choice.

Finally got around to reading this book after many, many years and it was absolutely worth the wait! Genuinely compelling reading and it translates really well to audio format. If nothing else, the audiobook is worth the money purely for the bit where the mature, upper-class English narrator sounds incredibly awkward while reading a sex scene from the woman's perspective. Comedy gold.

It is cold at six-forty in the morning on a March day in Paris, and seems even colder when a man is about to be executed by firing squad.
