I LOVED this audio read and sung by Lenny Kravitz, although it stops in 1989 with his marriage to Lisa Bonnet and the release of his first studio album. I‘m no super fan but this was such an enjoyable listening experience 🎧
LOVING this audio 💜Lenny Kravitz embodies the definition of #swag Had to laugh when he referenced the now defunct PEOPLExpress Airline 😂😂Haven‘t thought about the super no frills budget airline that was my go to source for cheap flights back in the 80‘s! Does anyone else remember flying PEOPLExpress ???
Wow! I didn‘t realize how privileged a childhood Lenny Kravitz led. And I had no idea his mom played the role of Helen Willis on The Jeffersons. So far this audiobook is fabulous and Lenny‘s voice 🙌🏻{{swoon}} #Hoopla @Megabooks
pickListening to Lenny tell his life story up through the making of his first album, Let Love Rule, was soothing. We see other than his tense relationship with his father, he had a family that supported and inspired his music aspirations. Lenny continually found himself caught between two cultures: black and white, NYC and Brooklyn, and Los Angeles and NYC. Lenny's stories about his past paint him as a nice guy here and, other than squabbles ⬇️
I have the physical book but I felt like listening to this. Thank you Hoopla! Narrated by Lenny himself.

pickThe first time I heard “Are you gonna go my way?” I fell in love with Lenny Kravitz (I‘m a hippie at heart raised by hippie parents). Although this wasn‘t the most well written book I enjoyed learning about his life. It is amazing the people he‘s met & experiences he‘s had. I waivered on the rating but decided to do a pick but only because I love Lenny so much. #bookspin
1. Only once! I was in elementary school and I tried to give myself bangs. I couldn‘t get them straight so I cut them off at my hairline. My momma freaked out & I had to get an emergency haircut to try to cover up the damage. Luckily my hair grows fast.
2. My pets! Today they were really good company while I was dealing with some work from home stress.

so-soI adore Lenny but I think I‘ll stick to his music.
This wasn‘t bad but it just read as a litany of name dropping. He obviously lived a colorful, vibrant life but I didn‘t really get a sense of HIM from this. I would have expected and appreciated more depth.
so-soAs a music fan and a fan of Lenny Kravitz, I really wanted to like this book but found it just OK. Lots of detail about his upbringing through college years as well as music influences. I really wanted to hear more about his actual career and we only hear about his first album. The book ends as maybe there will be another book to show these details of his career and life but I won't line up for that one.
pickIt took the better part of a lifetime, but Lenny Kravitz made himself cool. This is the kind of autobio where if you like the subject, you will like him more but if you don‘t like him you will like him less. Worth reading for the secret as to how a decently talented person lives such a big life.
so-soNot a fan of Lenny‘s music because frankly I haven‘t listened. But I love memoirs and reading about how others were raised and live. Lenny had the best: great maternal grandparents,a early childhood exposure to NY city culture, show biz connections via his actress mother, Bahamian vacations to visit family, and maybe a bit too much freedom in his teens in California. The book ends 30+ years ago, which was disappointing. 2/5🎸s

Wow, so many. But I'll pick five: Lenny Kravitz, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, NWA (old school 😉) and Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brit Bennett.
Hands down would be James Baldwin. So powerful as a writer/person and would love to walk around NY city with him and just talk!

pickLenny Kravitz is the coolest f*cking person I've ever read about. I'm in awe of his life and how he's remained humble and true to himself. Read his memoir. It's worth it.
I am SO jealous of Lenny Kravitz's childhood. He describes himself as a joyous child in a golden kingdom. His parents introduced him to some of the greatest artists of all time when he lived in NYC. When he moved to CA, he was surrounded by performers and musicians, listened to stories from seasoned hippies, and was a teenage pothead in the 70s. His mother embraced his personality and channeled his energy into the arts.
pickBetter than expected!! I really liked it. Come to find out its only part 1 out of how many i dont know. I loved his story and his voice. Cant wait for the next part. I learned quite a bit of cool facts too!

1. I ordered this memoir by Lenny Kravitz from Politics and Prose so I could watch their virtual event with him. It took a little while for it to arrive.
2. I bought a couple of ebook deals but no physical books.
so-soI enjoyed the book. However I hated the way it ended. Only goes up to Lenny marriage to Lisa Bonet and the birth of their daughter. Then Lenny ends the book with “to be continued”. I‘m disappointed. The best parts of his story will be in Part Two.
pickI absolutely enjoyed this beautifully poetic autobiography. It ended where his fame began. I look forward to a follow up. Audio version is read by Lenny....that voice! 😍
Tonight‘s Politics & Prose event for Lenny Kravitz and his new book was so fun. It started with Natalie Maines confessing how much she liked him as a teenager, proven by this scrapbook that she still has! (Relatable)
I‘m looking forward to reading Let Love Rule. I think it will be fun.
