The Gift of the Magpie
The Gift of the Magpie: A Meg Langslow Mystery | Donna Andrews
10 posts | 7 read | 1 reading
New York Times bestselling author Donna Andrews returns with another Meg Langslow mystery written "firmly in the grand tradition of Agatha Christie's Christmas books" (Toronto Globe and Mail). The 28th book and the seventh Christmas mystery in the Meg Langslow series, The Gift of the Magpie is yet another wonderfully merry and funny book from New York Times bestselling author Donna Andrews. Megs running Caerphillys Helping Hands for the Holidays project, in which neighbors help each other with things they cant do and cant afford to have done. Her hopes for a relatively peaceful (if busy) Christmas vanish when someone murders Harvey the Hoarder, whose house the Helping Hands were decluttering. Was there any truth to the rumor that he had something valuable hidden beneath all his junk? Was one of his friends, neighbors, or relatives greedy enough to murder him for the rumored treasure? And what about the magpie that has been bringing her family bits of tinsel and costume jewelrydoes the birds latest gift hold a clue to solving the crime? Full of intrigue, this Christmas mystery will take readers home to Caerphilly, where the suspense falls as thick as the snow.

I just finished listening to the latest Meg Langslow (#28!!) Mystery. Another holiday season in Caerphilly finds the now preteen twins, Josh and Jamie struggling to find the perfect Christmas gifts for everyone while the townspeople come together volunteering for the Helping Hands for the Holidays project. As usual, Meg has her hands full! This book touches on the sensitive subject of hoarding in a thoughtful way And we (cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy would all do well to take a page out of the town's people's book in helping our neighbors. Managing the holidays amongst mystery and murder is the challenge at hand but all is not as it may seem. It's always fun to revisit this cozy mystery series. 3y

Gosh I love this series. This has a new programme for Meg to work on and a hoarder to deal with - until he‘s murdered. Lovely Christmasy Reading.

4 Stars. This was a cute, funny, heart warming, holiday mystery. It involves a hoarder, a family, and a state employee, and a disappearance of a person that could be in the hoarders stuff. Loved the ending too. 🎅🤶☃️☃️☃️🌲🌲🌲🌲 #TBR #WinterGames2020 #TeamRedNosedReindeer #RedNosedReindeer #ReadYourWay #Holidayread #Christmas #Holiday #NewRelease @StayCurious

Jumping into this Christmas themed mystery series at book #28! But I really liked the mc and the town and the Helping Hands community project. The actual mystery takes a long time to get to, and while I thought the whodunit was pretty easy to solve, there was a twist or two that was lovely! #WinterGames2020 #MerryReaders #HolidayRead @Clwojick 26pts

Not a ton of reading done yesterday, but I did watch Peppermint on Netflix when I got home, and it definitely feels like a kind of Die Hard Christmas type movie... wonder if it counts? 😆

I hate that my hold on this book came in early — it wasn‘t supposed to be available for a month — because I prefer to read Andrews‘ Christmas books closer to Christmas. But I went ahead and listened to it anyway. Meg‘s grandfather wasn‘t as big a presence as he‘s been in the past, but the book was still fun. Campus walk at night with my daughter and the dogs from her dog walking gig. #audiowalk

I had started to listen to Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe on my lunch walk today, then when I got home I discovered my hold on The Gift of the Magpie came in way early. I‘m not thrilled about that because, for me, it‘s too early for Christmas books — it wasn‘t supposed to be available for a month. Now I‘m debating which should be my walking book and which should be my working book. #audiowalk

OMG, I love this series so much!!! Every book is like being wrapped in a warm blanket where I get to chuckle as I read about these zany characters I‘ve come to think of as my own family. I especially love when the books are situated at Christmas time! No spoilers, but I especially loved the surprise ending and how everyone got their comeuppance
