Hunt for shapes of all kinds on this journey through a bustling city, illustrated by four-time Caldecott Honoree Bryan Collier! From shimmering skyscrapers to fluttering kites to twinkling stars high in the sky, everyday scenes become extraordinary as a young girl walks through her neighborhood noticing exciting new shapes at every turn. Far more than a simple concept book, City Shapes is an explosion of life. Diana Murray's richly crafted yet playful verse encourages readers to discover shapes in the most surprising places, and Bryan Collier's dynamic collages add even more layers to each scene in this ode to city living.

Beautifully illustrated, rhyming picture book that brings to life the sights, smells, sounds, & shapes of the city.
Perfect choice to read before taking a walk with a preschooler to find the shapes in your neighborhood.

I've been reading this book to the local elementary school this week. After we read the book and revisited our favorite illustrations, we used some small wooden blocks for tracing and inspiration in our own pictures. I'm loving how this book inspired my students to view their world, and how many of them saw themselves in the young girl we follow through the city. #outreachlibrarian

Today I had 65 people for a shapes themed storytime (whew!).

I read City Shapes and we played "Little rabbit, little rabbit, what shape are you on?" I also passed out felt shapes and as I called out the shapes the children brought them up to the board. We talked about how learning shapes helps children recognize the letters.

I love #storytime

Talking to illustrator Bryan Collier when he signed this book for me today was lovely 😊. Hearing him talk about his work was extraordinarily interesting. He is a gifted artist who brings so much to his work.

I can't wait to read this for storytime. A young girl takes the reader through her city pointing out the shapes around her. Simple, but lovely, and beautifully illustrated.
For storytime I would mention the importance of identifying shapes with children since it will help them identify letters later on. I also have felt shapes I pass out to the kids and then we group them together on the felt board.

That moment when you're rifling through a pile of new books when one catches your eye and you realize a favorite illustrator has done it again... One could spend a long time looking at this book. #BryanCollier #WorldsOfWords
