My next 4 books for #52bookclub24
I loved Uhtred's last adventure (tagged), and I'll miss him a lot. More in the comments.

eeclayton I enjoyed the story -- both stories -- a lot. The author\'s prologue was very original and intriguing, and his asides throughout the book were clever, although a bit tiring, too, at some points. 2mo
eeclayton I didn\'t enjoy this one too much. The set-up felt far-fetched, and the first half of the book was rather boring. The second half (and especially the final chapters) had some unexpected twists that kept me guessing, but overall I\'m just glad I\'ve finished it. 2mo
eeclayton It was a fascinating book about women\'s lives and relationships in 19th century China. Many aspects were compelling and devastating at the same time (footbinding, family hierarchy, a wife\'s duties), and it was interesting to see how women tried to cope. 2mo

Librarybelle Great choices! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks The Princess Bride is one of the rare occasions where I prefer the movie to the book, but reading the book does give more background information/depth to the movie\'s story as well. I feel like when I read Cards on the Table I had to spend time looking up the rules of Bridge just to understand what was happening 😂 2mo
eeclayton @Librarybelle thanks 🙂 2mo
eeclayton @TheAromaofBooks I\'ve never seen The Princess Bride movie, I\'ll put it on my to-be-seen list! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks It\'s a bit of a cult classic... I\'ve been watching it long enough that my parents would skip over the Fire Swamp and Pit of Despair scenes because they thought I was too young to watch those bits 😂 If you even kind of enjoyed the book, I think you\'ll really like the movie. 2mo

I have now finished this series. I will miss Uhtred, but know that I will revisit this series. It has drawn me forward all year and I have loved the characters, the relationships, the drama, the history/way of life, and pace of the novels. Will miss Finan too and their humor and loyalty. So happy Uhtred was reunited with Steapa in this book. I feel free - free to pursue other books. Awesome series.

“I am Uhtred. Son of Uhtred.” And so ends the Saxon Tales — a fantastic series. Uhtred is an old man. An aged lord. The war lord who wishes for nothing more to never stand in another shield wall, and who must defeat his enemies with more cunning than brute strength. A pagan who must most unwillingly fight for a Christian Engaland. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Awk_Word_Smith I must say I‘m sad the series has ended 3y

Talk the talk. Walk the walk. Gotta drop this “I don‘t live in NYC anymore” weight.

Decided to save the final installment of Bernard Cornwell‘s Saxon Stories — War Lord — for this year. I will be sad to say goodbye to Lord Uhtred at this conclusion of this 13th novel. Lucky No. 13.

Probably a great book but heavy on war and battles (what did I expect from a novel entitled "War Lord"? ?) Just not my kind of thing.

War Lord provided a satisfying end to the saga of Uhtred Uhtredson. It‘s not the most exciting or intriguing chapter of his life, so but it meets the need to say goodbye.

*Screeches in eardrum-shattering high pitch*. It‘s here! After avoiding spoilers from the UK for a month and a half, I finally have the last of this incredible series on my kindle. I‘m excited and sad to live the last of Uhtred‘s story with him.

Is FB messaging an author to get an advanced readers copy of the last book in my favorite series and offering my first born child in exchange too much?
