6 posts | 10 read | 10 to read
A BRILLIANT AND BEGUILING REIMAGINING OF ONE OF OUR GREATEST MYTHS BY A GIFTED YOUNG WRITER Zachary Mason's brilliant and beguiling debut novel, The Lost Books of the Odyssey, reimagines Homer's classic story of the hero Odysseus and his long journey home after the fall of Troy. With brilliant prose, terrific imagination, and dazzling literary skill, Mason creates alternative episodes, fragments, and revisions of Homer's original that taken together open up this classic Greek myth to endless reverberating interpretations. The Lost Books of the Odyssey is punctuated with great wit, beauty, and playfulness; it is a daring literary page-turner that marks the emergence of an extraordinary new talent.

This took a tale or two to settle into, but overall I thought it was good. Now I want to go back to the source material!

kwmg40 OMG, now you're making me wonder if David Byrne was inspired by Homer! 😂 3y
rabbitprincess @kwmg40 Ha! Adding that to the list of questions I would ask if I ever met him 😂 3y

rabbitprincess @Lindy I was reading this at the vaccine clinic after getting my second Covid shot and had to really work hard to avoid breaking out into song 😂 3y

This review is for “Endless City” by Zachary Mason the 3rd short story in the Christmas Short Story Advent Calendar. This is one night and Odysseus travels through the city telling tales to Agamemnon, Cassandra, Achilles, Helen of Troy, Palamedes and various vacuous soldiers. Probably would have had more meaning if I were more familiar with the Odyssey but enjoyable.

New day, new books 🙂

Lel2403 I loved Purple Hibiscus..a tough read at times but brilliantly written 6y
tina_b.ooks @Lel2403 I'm a fan of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie without ever having actually read anything by here. I wasn't sure which book to get, but decided to go with Purple Hibiscus. 6y
Lel2403 @tina_b.ooks I‘m sure you‘ll love it.. 6y

Well it looks like USPS may have lost two of the boxes of books I shipped from New York to west palm. I'm so upset I want to punch something. And I don't know if I'll be able to remember all the books that were in those boxes. 30 pounds of books. Screw you, 2016 😡😡😡😡😡😫😫😫😫😫

quirkyreader I feeling like that right now. I was supposed to get two parcels from #PersephoneBooks. So far only one has shown up. And clearly of the side it says 1 of 2. And it only takes about two weeks for something to cross the pond. Now it's going on four. I just hope it arrives soon. 8y
