Prompt: Awakening
I immediately thought of the movie. Great acting by the late Robin Williams. Loved the movie; however, I never read the book.

Although Oliver Sacks‘ studies focused on the brain, not the heart, #chemicalheart still has me thinking of him and all of his medical studies. He human body is a bizarre and amazing thing! Someday I will read all of his books- @Reviewsbylola brought this collection to my attention and now I need it 😍

#NeuroticSociety #FierceFeb such an interesting read❤️
#Rocktober #Lithium @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB I'm sure #lithium was part of the mix of medications in Awakenings. Robert deNiro & the late Robbin Williams rocked this one. That brief moment of life . So poignant, ❤️( pic taken on recent walk)my choice here has been inspired by @Cinfhen s choice of Silver Linings Playbook 🙏🙏🙏for #lithium
Frightening what could go wrong with our brains. If it does, I hope I have a dr like Oliver Sacks.
Starting with fond memories of the film from about 15 years ago, when it seemed to be on TV at least once a month.
"Macht der Gewohnheit und Widerstand gegen Veränderung [...]. Denn hier sind wir gezwungen, die tiefsten, dunkelsten und furchterregensten Seiten unseres Selbst zu erforschen - die Seiten, die wir allzugerne verleugnen oder übersehen möchten. Die am schwersten in Gedanken oder Worte zu fassenden Gedanken sind die, welche diesen verbotenen Bereich streifen und in uns die stärksten Verleugnungen und die tiefsten Einsichten wieder-erwecken."
I found the first part very rough going, with a lot of medical jargon. But then the case histories are so interesting and beautiful, and then some of the last chapters are again more medical, but not so hard to understand any more. I now desperately want to see the De Niro-Williams movie again!
I had a glass of sangria with a friend last night and, after we parted ways, decided that was the right time to go look at books. Whoops?
