I forgot to post about this one, which I read last weekend. This is probably my favorite Tey I've read so far. At one point, I thought I'd figured out the twist, but I was wrong and it took a totally different turn. (I hate this cover, but it was from a library book sale, so it was super cheap.)

I was in rural England, by the River Rushmore in ‘Orfordshire‘
And also in transit with an unplanned stopover!

I loved this classic mystery set in an English country village. Adam Grant is a wonderfully warm, intelligent detective so it was fun to be in his company solving the disappearance of the Hollywood photographer Leslie. Great characters, nuanced relationships and it feels modern despite being published in 1950. Clean, strong writing with a sense of humour & well-paced. A simple story with rich layers underneath.

Written in the 1950s but it feels so modern. Tey writes interesting characters and although it‘s a classic country house style mystery it follows the rules with some added nuances. She touches on taboos, on different ways of thinking expertly. She captures conversations with brevity and leaves lots of room to add interpretation!

Mitch Can‘t wait now to get to the next one in the series - thanks so much @Chrissyreadit Can‘t wait to read 2y

Realised that this was one book in the Inspector Alan Grant series that I had missed out.
A solid mystery with a decent twist at the end.

A mysterious, slightly lopsided pyramid? No, just a pyramid of my favourite mystery books and authors, albeit lopsided. 😁
