Was okay. I didn't like all the political stuff.
This was a cute read but maybe just a wee bit too political for an escape read. Not that these topics aren‘t important but I tend to pick up books to escape from the reality we sometimes find overwhelming. Jamie and Maya though we‘re great characters and can I just say how much I love that they love Target? 🤣.
This story has been languishing on my kindle for a long time. Co-authored by Aisha Saeed, this is a ya story about a Muslim girl and Jewish guy who are pushed into canvassing, become best friends, & love Target (& eventually each other). Based on Albertalli & Saeed‘s experience helping with a local election, the MCs become passionate about political issues. Really enjoyed this & now want to hang out in Target‘s patio section. #bookspin for August
A little too political for me. I did enjoy Jamie's character. He seemed to be this huge bundle of energy.
February Book 10/25 #LitsyLove #bookspinbingo
This took a while for me to get into but I‘m glad I persevered. This book was funny, dealt with some religious issues and set in a political background.
Jamie volunteers for his local state senate, he prefers to be behind the scenes. Maya is having the worst Ramadan ever and feels like she‘s losing her best friend. Mayas mother volunteers her for canvassing but as the polls get closer will Jamie and Maya? A book navigating a cross-cultural romance
Yes No Maybe So is Chicken Soup for the Soul. Especially if 2016-2020 was a hard time for you, everyone needs a reminder that they can make a change for good. #YAromance #YAlit #yesnomaybeso #bookofthemonth
I loved the diversity in this book. I think it‘s important for both teens and adults to learn about other cultures. I actually like the main characters in here. It was a political book, but not too political. There was still enough romance to be shared.
Jamie and Maya are forced to knock on doors for a local political campaign together. The closer the election, the closer they become.
This just sounded like a cute synopsis. I will let you know how it goes.

You know how some books just make you happy? Once you start reading you get a grin that lasts way after you reach the end and close the pages. This is such a book. It‘s a love story between Jewish Jamie, and Muslim Maya, but it‘s also a story of a beautiful and heartwarming friendship.

This book was so cute ya all. I‘ll formally review it tomorrow but I just finished and had to share.
Ummmm. Who does that?...... not this reader. I could never let the end of a good book sit. Never.
Another great explanation. This is about being Jewish in our current times. He‘s never had a reason to be scared or worry, but then again maybe he did?
This is one of the best ways I have seen Trump described for kids to understand. And this was written BEFORE Jan 6th.
This is a timely book in light of the GA Senate special election coming up in January. Jamie & Maya were friends as toddlers because their moms were friends. They've lost touch over the years, but are now reunited the summer between junior & senior year of high school when they both help with campaigning for a local election in Georgia. Over the course of weeks as the campaign heats up, so does the romantic tension between Jamie & Maya.
Just finished it. Was pretty good and I really liked the relationship in it.
“ “Oranges don‘t have nipples” says Sophie “. Um what? 🤣. Of course they don‘t have them. They‘re a piece of fruit. #firstlinefridays
A good read to binge while waiting for election results. Maya and Jamie were inseparable when little, but haven't seen each other in 10 years when Jamie knocks over a pyramid of tangelos in front of Maya at Target. They end up canvassing together for a state senate campaign and starting a movement against a discriminatory bill. Plus, of course, they fall in love. I liked the characters, and there was more plot than expected. 3 ⭐
Characters asking for consent before touching other people - we love to see it!
This whole page is great. I will forever see Trump as Bowser now - what an image!
I'm particularly enjoying seeing Bowser in my head doing the shuffle that he did in the old Super Mario games, but with Trump's face on his body. Almost as good is just picturing Trump doing the Bowser shuffle 🤣🤣
Maya and Jamie meet cute and end up paired together helping a campaign. This has good messages about civic participation even if you aren‘t old enough to vote. However, I‘ve read one of Albertalli‘s before and this follows exactly the same formula. I needed something light after a heavy read, so this hit the spot, but in other circumstances I would not have enjoyed it as much.

The differences between YA novels now and YA novels when I first started reading them is astounding. YA novels now focus more on community issues, racism, and are more diverse and its amazing. This is a romance novel but there is more focus on an election and a racist bill than the romance between the two characters. Some YA novels are good old romance and they are sweet but these seem deeper to me and I'm loving it.
Meh. It took more than several chapters to get me interested and invested in the characters. But I did eventually get into it. I guess I liked it?
Maya‘s best friend is too busy to spend time with her, her summer trip was canceled, and her parents are separating. Now she‘s going door to door with Jamie asking people to vote. A YA friends-to-romantic-interests tale between a young Muslim girl and a young Jewish man centered around politics, life, self identity, and growing up.

This book is probably appealing to YA for the romance and potentially manages to interest teens in the political process.
Nevertheless, I thought that Maya's identity seemed whitewashed. Also, most characters in the book constantly went from super mature to incredibly childish every five minutes. It's quite disorienting.
And I finished this puzzle while listening to the book. #audiopuzzling
