Okay this novella got to me. Pets are always a heart-tugger, the way we expect them to fix other brokenness, expectations of love & loyalty. Damarias, struggling to make a living in coastal Colombia, is given an orphaned puppy. Powerful story told with such simplicity. Trauma & persistence. Jungle as character. Instinct to nurture. Tried the Spanish, but I read so slowly & Lisa Dillman‘s translation is a joy. Devastating end sneaks up. Trans. 2020
