Unfortunately, I can't find my copy, which will make #onmoretry a bit more difficult. Nonetheless, once I find it, I'll try to get past the 50% mark and finish this beast of a book. #JuneTunz

Cinfhen It sounds like a good read! 8y
JazzFeathers What a lovely cover. So atmospheric 😍 8y
drokka @Cinfhen The first third of the book was actually pretty good. Then it gets kind of weird. The same thing happened when I read Hippopotamus Marsh. I think she's one of those authors that, for me, has trouble carrying through a story. Others seems to really enjoy her works. 8y
drokka @JazzFeathers It is! I think that's not the cover of the edition I have, but I couldn't find a photo of that one. This, I believe is the cover you'll find on all the newer editions. 8y

Pickpick

For hardcore fans of big historical books with tons of detail! If that's not your cup of tea probably shouldn't bother.
How do I still cry at the end of Boudicca's story? She was the first female figure of any note I remember learning about in school and she'll always have a special place in my heart 💟

LeahBergen Yep. I cried in this one, too! 8y
TrishB @LeahBergen 💝 gets me every time! 8y
xicanti Someone once told me Pauline Gedge is embarrassed people still read this book. I loved it too, so I can't fathom why. 8y
TrishB @xicanti aww....that's a bit sad! 8y

One of the most kick-ass of #kickassheroines has to be Boudicca, the Celtic queen who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. #SeasonsReadings2016

I-read-and-eat Great pick! And this books is beautiful 😍 8y

Hobbinol Boudicca is bodacious!👏🏻 8y
LeahBergen @I-read-and-eat Thank you and yes, this cover is wonderful! 8y
LeahBergen @TrishB I hope you like it. I read it years ago! 8y
LeahBergen @Hobbinol Ain't she though? I wonder if I could pull off this look for the holiday season? 😉 8y
Hobbinol 😂I would stick with the festive green dress and that big cheese platter she's holding, but I'd leave the big ol' olive pick for special occasions when things get out-of-hand. Cheers! 8y
drokka I got about somewhere between a third and half the book and just got annoyed with her writing. I know a lot of people enjoy it, but I find her writing tedious. I should finish it though, conceptually a great story. 8y
LeahBergen @drokka I read it years ago but I definitely remember finding it slow-going up to (almost) the halfway point. It really picks up though. 🙂 8y
drokka @LeahBergen Ooooooh. I did not know that. I'll make it a priority in 2017. Maybe as a laundry room read. 8y
