The Neil Gaiman Library Volume 1 | Neil Gaiman, P. Craig Russel
7 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
A deluxe oversized collection of comic stories from celebrated and award-winning writer Neil Gaiman, in conjunction with some of comics' most acclaimed creators. In these four essential Gaiman tales, a familiar detective finds himself at the heart of a Lovecraftian nightmare on Baker Street, a strange man delves into the heartbreaking mystery of a divine murder in paradise, teenage boys find that approaching girls can lead to more danger than romance, and a verbose gothic writer finds his true calling amidst family duels and drudgery. Collects the full graphic novels A Study in Emerald, Murder Mysteries, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire in a single deluxe hardcover volume, along with bonus material from each book.

I love Neil Gaiman‘s imagination! I can‘t believe hubby found this for me all on his own. I didn‘t even know it was a thing. I am loving it. But dang it‘s heavy to hold while reading. It needs support pillows.

Christmas #bookhaul I plan on spending today relaxing and reading, with a big pot of tea. I hope you all having a relaxing bookish day, too.

Once I understood what was going on in the framing story, I fully embraced this play on the gothic genre. The gothic elements evoked aspects of Wuthering Heights, Beauty and the Beast, Dracula, and Poe‘s The Raven and Fall of the House of Usher.

Loved the 80s setting and references to punk and new wave music. Each girl had their own little story to tell. Again, I enjoyed the visuals of the artwork. The tagged graphic novel features 4 stories, and I‘m posting individual reviews for each story.

This tale of fallen angels was really interesting, though my least favorite in this collection. It read more like a fable than anything. I might have preferred it without the framing device. The visuals were very beautiful and appealing. The tagged graphic novel features 4 stories, and I‘m posting individual reviews for each story.

This was a fun Lovecraftian take on the classic Sherlock Holmes story “A Study in Scarlet.” In this alternate universe, royals are Cthulhu-like monsters that bleed green blood. The tagged graphic novel features 4 stories, and I‘m posting individual reviews for each story.

I didn‘t even know this was a thing—WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!?—until Neil Gaiman posted the thing on Instagram. It‘s out in June (🤞the production schedule doesn‘t slide) and I‘m fairly certain I‘m going to need a copy. Four stories, one volume. So cool.
