Pickpick

Although this book was written 25 years ago, it is more relevant today than it was when first published. There are some mystical elements with the main character being a “dowser” or “water witch.” This provides the author his creative license to explore the effects of the environment on the community. Does he “ignore” the potential presence of wildlife where the company has invested money to build or jeopardize his legal career?

“Patience told me two things when Laura, my wife, introduced us almost twenty years ago. She told me that as a dowser she is in touch with the earth. And she told me that as a man, I have great potential to become grotesque.” From the first chapter of WATER WITCHES. I‘m not sure I‘ve written anything truer. I love this 25th anniversary edition that Vintage published this summer with a special note from yours truly. Also available in eBook & audio

Squeal, look what just arrived! My first Chris Bohjalian book that I ever read and the book that my better amazing librarian half, John used for his first bookclub discussion! We met Chris in Washington, DC three year at the National Book Festival & John still talks about that moment! I know what we will be doing tonight! 📚😀

Want to escape the present? (And who doesn‘t?) The 25th anniversary edition of my gently comic, magical realist novel of global climate change, WATER WITCHES, goes on sale TODAY wherever you buy books or download audios. Also? It includes a special author‘s note from yours truly about the process of writing it.

Reecaspieces I want this so badly! 4y

Surprise! Look what arrives June 30: a beautiful 25th anniversary edition of my 1995 novel, WATER WITCHES: “an eerily prescient political drama about global climate change.” Author‘s note included.

Today, we want to not only recognize books, but the Litten Authors who take time to interact on Litsy, talk with fans, and be a fan themselves.

The 2019 #LitsyAwards #Winner is Chris Bohjalian for being an active member of Litsy, and not just because we offer praise, or to promote his own work.

Water Witches: A Novel | Chris Bohjalian
Mehso-so

Set in Vermont, this is a tale of women who dowse for water, and a lawyer who loves them. The lawyer's main client is a ski resort that believes it needs to expand to remain competitive, and this expansion pits jobs against environmental conservation leaving our main character with conflicted loyalties. A bit too politically simplistic and without the subtlety needed for a realistic touch to an otherwise magical ending, I thought it was just ok

JenP Well, that's too bad. Hopefully your next one will be better 7y
Currey I would like to read 4321. Can I read something else for NY and declare that for NJ? @JenP 7y
JenP Sure. 4321 has whole sections set in NJ 7y
