***** "A disturbing, gripping page-turner, it pulled me in further and further until I realised I was going to read it in one sitting. There's a sense of menace throughout and the narrative is addictive. FIVE STARS***** "There's no messing around with this book, it jumps straight into the action and keeps that pace up throughout. I love that it's set in my favourite parts of North London and there are some truly dark edges to the book."'When You're Gone' is the first book from 'This Dark Town' mystery thriller trilogy.Eighteen-year-old Lydia Stone wakes up one morning in the north London gothic mansion she shares with her family, to find that her twin sister Kate has disappeared off the face of the earth.CCTV footage shows Kate entering a night club in south London on the night she went missing, but there is no evidence that she ever came out of the club, and police are considering the idea that she was sex-trafficked.In the days and weeks that follow, Lydia takes a closer look at her twin sister's life; her modelling career, penchant for fetish clubs, and interesting array of older friends. It seems like Kate was definitely hiding something. But she isn't the only one...

Urgh.... It‘s easy to tell why this was a freebie on Amazon Kindle.

It‘s written in some kind of present continuous tense but swapping between a number of different narrators.
It‘s clunky and plodding with a lot of editing errors and then, to top it all off, the story stops just as it‘s getting going and you have to ‘buy‘ books number 2 and 3 to get the resolution, which I certainly won‘t be doing!

AlaMich Yeah, I‘m always wary of the free Kindle books. I‘ve often wondered if that makes me a snob, but I guess I‘m ok with that. 4y
squirrelbrain Well, if you‘re a snob then I‘ve definitely turned into one after this rubbish! @AlaMich 4y
Caroline2 Argh!! How annoying! This is why I‘m bailing more, life is too short for naff books. 😒 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage I agree with @Caroline2 — more bailing is better! But it‘s a hard call when you‘ve got a prompt to check off. Good job! 👊🏻📚♥️ 4y
squirrelbrain I really struggle to bail on books @Caroline2 @BarbaraTheBibliophage - maybe I could take lessons from you Caroline?! 😁😘 4y
Caroline2 I never used to bail! I thought I had to finish every book I started. Then I thought back on some of the naffs books I‘d read and added up how many I wished I‘d bailed on. And I always try to get to 50pages before bailing. Then I feel I‘ve given it a chance. But it‘s personal choice, I‘m really tight on reading time now so I feel I have to be selective. 😉 4y
