Swimming Lessons | Lili Reinhart
10 posts | 13 read | 2 to read
The debut collection of poetry from Lili Reinhart, the actress and outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and body positivity. Swimming Lessons is the first collection of poetry from one of the most beloved young actresses working today. It follows the euphoric beginnings of young love, battling anxiety and depression in the face of fame, and coming to terms with the end of a romance. Through it all, Lili's trademark honesty, optimism, and unique perspective are evident in her first poetry collection. Relatable yet deeply intimate, provocative yet comforting, bite-sized yet profound, these beautiful poems are about growing up, falling down, and getting back up again. They capture what it feels like to be a young woman in today's image-obsessed world, and how to follow your heart even when the odds are stacked against you. Accompanied by striking and evocative illustrations, the poems in Swimming Lessons reveal the depths of female experience, and are the work of a storyteller who is coming into her own. anied by striking and evocative illustrations, the poems in Swimming Lessons reveal the depths of female experience, and are the work of a storyteller who is coming into her own.

Don‘t let her celebrity status keep you from this book. Her words are raw and ring true for all of us who have lost that person that contained your world and then had to watch them move on without you.

Reading this book felt like I was reading someone's journal. The feelings were true and raw. Many were very beautiful to read and some of them made me cry.

TheBookHippie I love this book. I agree. 4y

I really wanted to like this, it was clearly so personal and difficult to write. I just really didn‘t like any of the poems. It just felt like less good Rupi Kaur poetry. I‘ll defend this style of poetry to the death but not this example of it. Giving it a so so rather than a pan cause I can imagine it connecting with me more if I was younger, maybe, and I might not be the target audience.

As much as I wanted to like this one... I didn't. The poems all seem half-baked and uninspired - the sort of thing that a student might write for a homework assignment in a class they're not invested in. I fear that this publication was more of a pandering money grab based on her celebrity status rather than a poetry book of any real merit.

These feel more like journal musings rather than *poetry* and would have benefitted from being broken up by theming. But nonetheless, love & heartbreak is something most people can relate to. ❤️

I received this in the mail today and I read it in one sitting. The poems were beautiful! Lili Reinhart definitely has a place in the writing universe. I hope she continues to write poetry and publish. I look forward to reading more of her work! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!
