I loved this book when I read it last year. The main character is a witch who owns an apothecary shop

Pickpick

What an enjoyable “cozy mystery!” The main character may be coming into her magical powers in a town of magic when a stranger is murdered. Sleuthing to write a story for her magazine, she digs deep into the town‘s strange residents. I loved its complexity, writing style, and it being a super easy read. I‘ll be reading all the books in this series (even though it appears to be self-published). #scarathlon #teamslaughter 66 points! ⬇️

I think y‘all can figure out why I like this book, the main character uses my vocabulary (emphasis added)!

I‘m enjoying this book so much. It‘s well-written and then there‘s these funny exchanges between the main character and her familiar, Hemlock, a large black kitten. I‘m sure you can tell which is “witch” from the dialog.

I always enjoy references to other books when I‘m reading a book. This was a conversation between the main character (who‘s apparently a “dud” witch) and her familiar, a snooty black cat. #scarathlon #teamslaughter 1 point

GingerAntics 🤣😂🤣 love this conversation 4y

Just filling in my current reads for #gothtober. Some of these fit in multiple categories, like Salem‘s Lot is also a modern retelling and vampire film/tv. But it‘s such an ancient copy from my teen years it really fits best under Oldest Purchased. The Historian also works well for Dark Academia and it‘s red. Last Kabbalist also fits for disability rep. This is fun. We will see if I start any more books whether I can fill in more categories.

Weird book coincidences: in the two ebook mysteries I‘m reading right now, the mystery is about a body found on top of a circular symbol. How does that happen? #scarathlon #teamslaughter

GingerAntics Oh I did love that bit in Crouchback. I think it‘s partly because circular shapes are symbols found in many cultures for various reasons. There is also a dead body found inside a circle (like the vitruvian man) in The Da Vinci Code. Dead bodies in circles are EVERYWHERE!!! It‘s actually perfect for this time of year. 🤣😂🤣 4y
