The Nature of Winter
The Nature of Winter | Jim Crumley
4 posts | 4 to read
During winter, dark days of wild storms can give way to the perfect, glistening stillness of frost-encrusted winter landscapes - it is the stuff of wonder and beauty, of nature at its utmost. In The Nature of Winter, Jim Crumley ventures into our countryside to experience firsthand the chaos and the quiet solitude of nature's rest period. He bears witness to the lives of remarkable animals such as golden eagles, red deer and even whales as they battle intemperate weather and the turbulence of climate change. ?In the snow Jim discovers ancient footsteps that lead him to reflect on the journey of his personal nature-writing life - a journey that takes in mountain legends, dear departed friends and an enduring fascination and deep love for nature. Simply, he evokes winter in all its drama, in all its pathos, in all its glory.

#NaturaLitsy

Sadly #wintergames has been cancelled this year. I'm putting out the feelers to see if anyone would be interested in a hygge, nature inspired winter challenge. It would run from 1st - 21st December, ending on the solstice. Who knows, if there is interest I may do a summer solstice one too.
Please comment below and I'll start brainstorming over the weekend. It would be called #Midwintersolace

AllDebooks @Clwojick @StayCurious would you both be ok with me setting up this event? It would only be a gentle challenge, nothing at all like your scarathalon/wintergames events. I don't want to be overs 2y
AllDebooks Overstepping or treading on any toes, as it were. Just looking for something fun to do in the run up to the holidays. 2y
BookmarkTavern This sounds like a lovely idea! 💙 2y

AnnR I might be interested. Would it be possible for you to give a few more details? Does it involve reading, or posting nature photos, or????

2y
AllDebooks @Ann_Reads I'll get back to you tomorrow with more certain ideas. It would be something very gentle and fun. Extremely busy time of year, so was thinking of self care, comfort, hygge, nature inspired theme 2y
AllDebooks @ozma.of.oz Thank you, hopefully it takes off 😊 2y
AmandaBlaze @AllDebooks Thanks, I finally found it. Yes, I would be interested, especially if there are word searches. Don't know why I like finding words in a book, but I do. lol 2y
AnnR @AllDebooks Oh, that sounds nice! I'll look forward to your post. I was envisioning a nature scavenger hunt or something, which would be incredibly fun but I probably wouldn't follow through with doing that in December. 2y
SamAnne This is a wonderful idea. I‘m in. 2y
TheBookHippie In!!! 2y
Clwojick @AllDebooks Of course we‘d be okay with it, and it looks like you have some interest already which is great! I always say the more reading events the better, so there‘s something for everyone. ❤️ Enjoy! 2y

So excited to have been tagged to do this!!! (Thanks so much, Santhi @BookishMe 😊🙏😊)

1. Keeper turned donator. We recently moved to temporary housing for my new job and I donated almost 300 books in the process.

2. Shortest timeframe for a novel (of late): 2 days. Longest ... 2 years.

3. Tagged. Expected something extolling the beauty of winter; this seemed more concerned with convincing me it no longer exists. A tough sell in -30C weather.

TReads I'd like to tag @ImperfectCJ, @MySharonaK, @rather_be_reading & @Buchbeeg 🎉🎉🎉 And a big thanks to @Eggs for hosting!!! #wondrouswednesday (edited) 5y

ImperfectCJ Moving is a huge reason for my book donation habit. 5y
TReads @Crazeedi Thanks so much, Diane!!! ☺️☺️☺️ 5y
TReads @BookishMe Thanks, Santhi. ☺️ It wasn't easy to give them up, but my new job is in a library, so I figured if I really want to read them, I can always borrow them from work. 📚📚📚 5y
TReads @ImperfectCJ Carting them from one province to another and back again really put things in perspective for me this time. I also finally admitted to myself that I'm not a big re-reader, so the only ones I kept were either unread or meaningful gifts from important people In my life. 😊📚😊 5y
TReads @Eggs Thank you, Sherri! I'm so happy to be a part of this wondrously welcoming community. 🎉❤️🎉 5y
Eggs @TReads We‘re so happy to have you! 5y
BookishMe @TReads Dream workplace!! 😍😍 5y
TReads @BookishMe It's my first full-time children's programming position, so it's been quite the learning curve, but I feel like it's something I could commit to for the long haul! ❤️📚❤️ 5y
BookishMe @TReads all the very best! 👍🏽👍🏽 5y
