A man with a mysterious past must find a missing teenage girl in this shocking thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Run Away. Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father-with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde-with whom she shares a tragic connection-to use his unique skills to help find Naomi. Wilde can't ignore an outcast in trouble, but in order to find Naomi he must venture back into the community where he has never fit in, a place where the powerful are protected even when they harbor secrets that could destroy the lives of millions . . . secrets that Wilde must uncover before it's too late.

I‘ve enjoyed the TV version of Harlan Coben‘s books I‘ve watched and have to say I slightly prefer those versions to this audiobook if only because the complicated backstories and large cast of characters might be easier to follow visually. I also wish we got more information on Wild‘s strange start…at times it felt like this was the middle of a series instead of (what I believe is) a first book. Hopefully the next book gives me more! 🌟🌟🌟💫

Feral children in books is a small sub-genre that I can‘t resist- though this makes up the main character‘s backstory, Wilde‘s time in the wilderness of NJ isn‘t the focus. Instead, the plots here focus more on missing teens & secrets- along with a dash of politics. It‘s definitely a bit of a genre deviation for my book club, so I‘m looking forward to seeing what everyone thought of it at our meeting this weekend! I think I have to get the sequel!

ShelleyBooksie Did you color this? It's beautiful. 2y

I borrowed this one from my dad, also an avid reader. Harlan Coben is one of his favorite authors. I found this book very entertaining and am glad I read it. I wish I had learned more about Wilde‘s backstory because that plot was the one that hooked me the most. But I thought it was great overall and can now talk with my dad about it! #loveyourshelf This is my 5th book finished from my shelves in February.

LiteraryinPA @Cinfhen No way!! That explains why things were left so open-ended! 2y
Cinfhen And the sequel gives a lot of the background information that you were searching for!, 2y
LiteraryinPA @Cinfhen Thanks so much! I will definitely get on that! 2y

This book started off wildly captivating and I couldn‘t put it down. The plot begins to drag and loose ends get tied up just a little too nicely and neatly for me to stay as hooked as I was in the beginning. Politics, money, love and loss - this book shows you parallels between all these things in life. Easy and fun read overall.

I felt like this book had a lot going on for one story, unresolved boy/man lost in the woods, missing child, then another missing child, then a murder, some romance thrown in, random characters getting peppered into the story here and there. I feel like Coben had a slight case of mental diarrhea with this one. Unbeknownst to me till after I was pissed with the book ending with unresolved issues I found out there will be a sequel. Oh joy! 😒

Another fun thriller from @katiekat311 #NYWD22 list. Nice and twisty and with a good mix of likable characters and like-to-hate ones. The only thing I didn‘t like was the final paragraph. I‘m going to be mad about that for a while. 😂 Also, this is my first Harlan Coben, but I don‘t think it will be my last.

EadieB I loved reading about Hester again, a character from Coben's Myron Bolitar series. This book was very entertaining with twists that kept me interested. It had great humor that Coben is noted for and interesting characters. The ending was a complete surprise that I did not see coming. I'm looking forward to visiting again with Wilde in the near future. 3y

I‘ve read more than 20 of Coben‘s books in the last couple of years. This is my favorite, and in my opinion, by far the most thought provoking. It delves briefly into ‘cult of personality‘ politics and the manipulation of social media via artificial means and disinformation, which is interesting. I really enjoyed this and immediately preordered the next in the series, set to release 3/17/22.

I'm late to the Harlan Coben train, but will definitely be reading more of his books! This was fast-paced and fun. I saw some of the twists coming, but there were others that took me by surprise.

What to do during a summer break that has rained nonstop?
Snuggle up and read, obviously! I was able to sneak a few chapters in while Nina forced my mom to read a giant stack of books to her 🤣

Having dinner with my parents tonight and my mom told me to "go relax" while my dad entertained the kids... they're the best.
I left my book at home, so I snagged this off their bookcase. 40 pages in and I'm intrigued!

I always love a good thriller and Coben never disappoints. This one got a little too real for me - the major plot was clearly inspired by the current political climate and a certain former president - and I wish some loose ends had been tied up re: Wilde‘s backstory and Naomi‘s arc. But it was a page turner with some great characters and a solid mystery!

Picked up from the supermarket for super-cheap 😍 There aren't many Harlan Coben books I haven't read, but this is one of them according to my Goodreads...

I also picked up cake. And cupcakes. And cheese. Lots of cheese. Altogether a successful trip!

This was a fun, fast paced mystery. I flew right through it! It is the start of a series though, so there is a mystery that doesn‘t get solved in this book, so I‘ll have to wait until the next in the series comes out.

I was so disappointed - I started with the brilliant Myron Bolitar books and am not so keen on the spin offs. I found this so unbearably slow to plough through. Didn‘t really care about the characters, time for a break from thrillers I think!

This was my first book by Harlan Coben, and it didn't disappoint. A gritty, fast-paced thriller about the search for two missing kids. A couple of intertwining storylines kept it from being predictable, and Wilde is a great character. I read this in one afternoon. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have reached my total books read from 2019- almost to my goal for the year!

This was a good read, Harlan Coben, is a master at writing a mystery that you think is going one way and then directly diverts at the last minute. It was well.laid out, well executed. I loved the cast of characters throughout the book, even though wilde is the main character it felt like all.yhe characters become a lead in this story at some point. Well done.

This was a decent Harlan Coben. Not the usual amount of suspense. I‘m not sure if he was trying to make this one more character driven, but the title of the book is misleading as to what the story is actually about. It‘s ok. Not the best, not the worst, but if you‘re a fan of Coben‘s you will still enjoy it.
