In this sophisticated, suspenseful debut reminiscent of Laura Lippman and Chloe Benjamin, two young women become unlikely friends during one fateful summer in Atlantic City as mysterious disappearances hit dangerously close to home. Summer has come to Atlantic City but the boardwalk is empty of tourists, the casino lights have dimmed, and two Jane Does are laid out in the marshland behind the Sunset Motel, just west of town. Only one person even knows theyre there. Meanwhile, Clara, a young boardwalk psychic, struggles to attract clients for the tarot readings that pay her rent. When she begins to experience very real and disturbing visions, she suspects they could be related to the recent cases of women gone missing in town. When Clara meets Lily, an ex-Soho art gallery girl who is working at a desolate casino spa and reeling from a personal tragedy, she thinks Lily may be able to help her. But Lily has her own demons to face. If they can put the pieces together in time, they may save another lost girlso long as their efforts dont attract perilous attention first. Can they break the ill-fated cycle, or will they join the other victims? Evocative, eerie, and compelling, Please See Us is a fast-paced psychological thriller that explores the intersection of womanhood, power, and violence.

This isn‘t the most riveting, page-turning, thriller of the lot, despite the Chloe Benjamin blurb on the cover. It is, however, a deep critique of society and how people are sometimes left to rot in those corners where wealthier, more fortunate, individuals choose not to look.

Up early this morning to make cookies for today‘s school-based book chat where we are discussing award winners. This story of a teenage clairvoyant, and a 20- something spa receptionist who form a strange bond in Atlantic City. This was well written but S-l-o-w.

What I felt most while reading this book was annoyance. Annoyance that this was published. It is such an unnecessary book that just combines the worst aspects of all the genres it touches. The friendship, the romance, the finding oneself, the crime story, the family sob stories, UGH, I couldn‘t wait to finish this book so that I could just forget about it

I loved everything about this story, well as much as one can love a story about serial killings, anyway. The seediness, the realness, the tarot readings, the Atlantic City setting, all of it was so engaging. I also really enjoyed the narratives from the victims, the way it was done...it really added to the story.

A very dark debut with varied perspectives and with such a strong sense of scene that crumbling Atlantic City is its own character truly. The characters all come to life and while this has a grimly realistic edge to it, it‘s more of a literary thriller. There are interesting points made about being a woman and the treatment of all types of women. All in all, an impressive debut!! Can‘t wait to see what she follows this up with!

Clara and Lily are unlikely allies to find a missing girl after Clara, a psychic teenager, has increasingly disturbing visions about women she meets. Atlantic City was the perfect setting for this story. The desperation of a town trying to rebound following hurricane Sandy really set the tone for the story as well as each of the characters we meet, many of whom are trying to escape their own demons and start over. I really enjoyed this. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
