Mehso-so

The Haunted Hotel was OK. I wasn't wowed. I enjoyed that the hotel was in Venice because I went earlier this month and fell in love with the place. Luckily the place I stayed didn't formerly house any of my dead relatives or generate any eerie bad smells.

I would describe the story and writing as quintessentially Victorian through and through. The sort of tale that would probably be scarier read at a time before electric lighting.

emz711 Another Wilkie Collins book that I've never heard of! I feel like I keep collecting them and they sound so good 7mo

1. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Still traumatised by it. Why people read this one and other dystopian society visions all too likely to come true for fun eludes me.
2. Subtle, insidious and spooky please.
I hate gore or body horror. No crass violence, no torture. No dystopian.
Ghosts; psychological, eerie, weird horror? Yes, please!
3. Wilkie Collins. The tagged, especially the stories Dream Woman & A Terribly Strange Bed are creepy.

@RaeLovesToRead - Fun questions! 😀
I'll also keep watching the answers for more Gothic recommendations!
Ah, and The Blue Lenses by Daphne du Maurier was creepy in the best way, too 😊 Rebecca & My Cousin Rachel by her don't need to be pointed out, right? Neither The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. The are obvious classic Gothic picks.

RaeLovesToRead I also loved Rebecca! That would've been my pick haha. 1y

Right up my alley, this #thoughtfulthursday #spookyedition @Moonwitch94 🖤

✨This is tough... I need suspense, but I love both gothic mysteries and psychological thrillers. Spooky vibes and suspense!
✨Nothing beats a good haunted house story!
✨Picking one single fave is impossible! Dracula, so many by Daphne du Maurier, Neil Gaiman, Wilkie Collins, etc. etc.

Thanks for the tag @StaceGhost 😊💞
Wanna play? @BeeMagical @RaeLovesToRead @MySharonaK

MoonWitch94 Can‘t go wrong with Dracula 🧛‍♂️ 2y

⚡ Tagged.
⚡ Don't really have a preference. Multiple authors can provide a lot of suspense, but then, if the single author is good - all's well. 😊
⚡ We weren't told many spooky stories in our childhood, but I discovered a pretty spooky fairy tale in Grimm's Fairy Tales pretty early on: The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was. 😨😊
