This was a quietly heartbreaking and very complicated book that explores the ever-changing dynamics of what the narrator Lina calls "community babymaking". But underneath that main theme come discussions of power dynamics, marriage equality, infidelity, addiction and sobriety, and the secrets that families keep behind closed doors. A definite pick!
Oh, this beautiful, complicated insanity of a book; full of secrets and silences and admissions and half-truths. It's beyond messy, but it's so so good. Reading as fast as I can to find out what happens.
My #tbrtuesday this week is to work on finishing my three in-progress books.
I thought this was pretty terrific...Frangello manages to develop a large cast of characters and write their actions in a way that feels emotionally honest and really original. And she's a local author to boot! 😄 #localfirst
"The story of three families in Chicago, and their complicated, complicated relationships as they navigate through life, in search of what they want. Every Kind of Wanting is a strong, passionate novel about what a mess people make of their lives, and a fabulous story about contemporary relationships and the lengths people will go to to find comfort and happiness." - @Liberty
