It is New Year's Eve, nearly six weeks into an off-and-on blizzard that has locked Alaska down, effectively cutting it off from the outside world. But now there are reports of a plane down in the Quilak mountains. With the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board -- responsible investigating aviation incidents) unable to reach the crash site, ex-Trooper Jim Chopin is pulled out of retirement to try to identify the aircraft, collect the corpses, and determine why no flight has been reported missing. But Jim discovers survivors: two children who don't speak a word of English. Meanwhile, PI Kate Shugak receives an unexpected and unwelcome accusation from beyond the grave, a charge that could change the face of the Park forever.

A good addition to the series. It wrapped up a few things from previous books and set some stuff up for future books

BookmarkTavern That book cover made me shiver a little bit! Very ominous looking! 3y

More Kate Shugak and Mutt! It‘s always great when a new Kate Shugak book comes out, and this one didn‘t disappoint me. It‘s probably not a great one to start with, as it does feature a certain amount of backstory from previous books.

Of course I loved it. The strength of this series is, & has always been the characters & that includes the great state of Alaska. 22 books in & it must be said, picking up a Kate Shugak mystery is like settling in for an evening with the family—an evening of crime, secrets, villainy, heroism, family, love, & storytelling. I also appreciate that Stabenow remains committed to putting her characters through the wringer. One of my favorite series.

😂

Have to love a mystery set in Alaska with a bit of The Last Jedi thrown in—“Page turners they were not.”

Look what showed up in the mail today?!? A little early according to the listed publication date, 1/14/2020, but I‘ll take it. Talk about a series with a strong sense of place, where the setting is one of the most important characters. So excited to read more about Kate Shugak and her adventures. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite series. YAY surprise Saturday #bookmail!
