Catching up on posting February reviews. This one is pegged as a mystery thriller but I think it is more literary fiction & more haunting & tragic than suspenseful. Gorgeous prose & a story that weaves Irish folklore with the more modern (1995/2010) disappearance of a young girl. I was absorbed & would read more from the author. Paired with Potato Salad that I made more because I was craving it that deep meaning in the book.😋😆Recipe/review👇🏻

This mystery was a little different than I expected. Way more of a book clubby read than a suspenseful mystery.

It‘s been far too long since I have taken a Saturday morning at my happy place—down by the water at my favorite coffee shop with avocado toast & cold brew with oat milk & an #ARC for a book tour review next week. My house guests are on Kauai until tonight & the peace after a crazy work week is lovely as is this sunny & breezy morning.💙

I wasn‘t really sure what to expect from this one! It‘s definitely more of a literary fiction book than mystery/thriller, despite the book mainly revolving around the story of Rowan, a 12 year old girl who went missing in 1995. Adair was her friend and narrates half of the book, while the other half unravels in sort of vignettes revealing generations of history about their hometown. It‘s a fresh and original read though not completely satisfying.
