I‘m probably not the intended audience for these books, but I really like them. I love the characters and love cheering them on as they navigate teenage life.

MissyD That‘s on my TBR list. One of the middle school girls who comes into the library where i work recommended it to me saying “you always help me pick out books. And encourage me to try new books. Sooo I need you to read this one”. 1y
mrp27 I really enjoyed this one and I‘ve been reading other titles from this author, she‘s a good one with some great books! 1y

As the sequel to Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, armless Aven is leaving the ease and comfort of middle school to begin the journey of the high school experience, and wishes she could be homeschooled…

Shockingly, I liked this book much better than the first one. It was funnier and felt with more deep stuff. But, I have to say, a girl with no arms started a band, and she didn‘t call it Armageddon. 4.5⭐️

mandarchy I saw this and 🤔 wondered. I never (totally exaggerating) read sequels. From your review I may need to read this. Is it middle grade like the first or YA? 3y
Zoe-h @mandarchy I would guess middle grade. 3y

This was a sweet sequel to the first book about a determined heroine Aven. She was born with no arms but she doesnt let that stop her or her spirt. In the first book, Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, she deals with moving to a new town. In this book she deals with moving on to high school, bullies, school dances where she is dreading them playing the YMCA and overcoming her fears. Sarcastic kids with big hearts steal mine every time.

jewright I loved the first book. 4y
TEArificbooks Oh I didn‘t know there was a sequel. I will have to get it. 4y

22. Space Case 3.5⭐️

Texreader I read Space Case some years ago. It‘s a pretty cute sci fi for kids book 5y
TheAromaofBooks While I found the Chesapeake Bay series to be decent reading, I'm super confused about why the guys on covers all just look like they're super constipated. Like who approved these covers?! 5y
hes7 @TheAromaofBooks 😂🤣 It‘s true! 5y

I really enjoyed this sequel to Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. I loved revisiting the characters I fell in love with in the first book, and following Aven as she enters high school. This one explores some heavier themes as Aven navigates a bigger school & comes up against some cruel bullying. There‘s wonderful depth and a refreshing lack of teen drama—rather a focus on meaningful relationships & learning to love who & where you are.

Sometimes the friends you make aren‘t the ones you expected. And sometimes the place you find yourself in isn‘t the place you were hoping for. And sometimes, if you keep an open mind, you‘ll find they‘re so much better than what you imagined.

Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus was one of my top 5 books of 2018- I loved it so much that I read it to both of my 6th grade book clubs and have convinced probably a dozen students since then to read it. The sequel didn‘t quite live up to my expectations, although it was still very good. I laughed and I cried, but never had that “OMG This is the best book ever” feeling.

BarbaraJean I didn‘t realize this was out yet—will have to go check it out! So glad you recommended the first one to me for last year‘s #newyearwhodis! 5y
Johanna414 @BarbaraJean yes! You were another one of my victims! I missed the sign ups for #newyearwhodis - that was so much fun last year 5y
BarbaraJean It really was a lot of fun—you sent me a great list!! 5y
