pick'I cannot' describe how incredible this novel is. This is honestly one of the most original books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. This toaster with a heart of gold will become the sole occupant of your heart. Rib-cracking dead-pan humour is scattered throughout this book, along with endearing AI characters exploring their capacity of experiencing human emotions &, most unusually, entire chapters comprised in screenplay format. Must read!
so-soA uniquely frustrating read. It turns out that attempting to creatively write in a robotic style to better evoke a robotic narrator doesn't mesh well with a human reader. The deep dive into feelings and etymology and empathy was worthy, but the more generic factoid asides to artificially build tension between plot points got old fast. The graphics to represent data as a robotic brain would analyze differently from humans were a creative bonus.
I'm sensing a dim view of clowns on the part of the author....🤡🤹😱
Okay, definitely need a bit more light-hearted robot fiction after fascinating-but-dense Autonomous. Just read a chapter (okay, two from Robot in the Garden) from each of these and honestly might continue alternating them...along with everything else I'm trying to get to before it's due back at the library. 🤦🏼♂️#robotbooks
so-soI really wanted to like this and got on well with the start, but after a while I found the writing style started to grate on me. I was hoping that it would develop as Jared did but it didn‘t really. Nice concept, shame about the reality.
I‘m hoping this is going to be funny, but I‘m worried that the writing style is going to grate after a while.
