so-soKirsten was always my favorite. I'm from Minnesota and though my family isn't Scandi, most of my town was. Erasure of Native peoples is a huge issue here. The Looking Back section which asks readers what they would choose to take with them if they could only take one trunk and says "one of your relatives probably had to make decisions like these, because there is a story like Kirsten's in nearly every American family." 1/2
When I was ten years old, my mom bought for me and my two younger sisters each an American Girl Doll. I got Kirsten.
Years later, after Kirsten had been packed away in a box, my mom came to me and asked if Kirsten could sacrifice a few limbs so we could fix a couple dolls for my younger cousins. I said yes. And the remnants of Kirsten were packed away for a few more years.
This Christmas, my mom sent Kirsten off to the Doll Hospital. ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️

$0.50 at the HPB sale today but I couldn't resist. After all, it's me! I had this namesake doll as a child and despite what I may look like now as a young girl I actually resembled my American Girl doll a little. Having an unusual name everyone misspells and mispronounces I was simply ecstatic having someone (even just a doll) share my name. This was a pure nostalgia purchase.
