Strong and clever female protagonist. I wasn‘t thrilled with the audiobook voices, it was like they were yelling all the time. Though the writing was good, dystopian is not my favorite🫤

This book was a great fast read for me and kept my imagination awake. I loved imagining the towns and some scenes in the book. I am glad I was able to read 4 books this month but I'll have to catch up a book soon to keep up my habits of 5 books a month.😂🌚
The perfect MG dystopian! It introduces the idea that power corrupts, & that you should always question authority - but doesn't focus on any one social issue (which is good, since that could be too complex for kids). The best part of this book is the character development. The protagonist is strong, clever, & HILARIOUS. Her scathing wit had me in stitches. A near-perfect book (if only the end didn't tie everything up with a neat little bow)! 😩🎀
"'Hurry! Something smells terrible. Is it fire?'
'Burning snakes,' I mumbled, as if that was the sort of thing everyone was used to smelling."
Ani Mells = Indiana Jones.
Love the humor in this book!
"I grabbed his arm and started to pull him away. Looking back at the wardens, I said, 'Sorry he troubled you. Boys can be such babies about deadly diseases, don't you think?'"
I love anything Jennifer A. Nielsen and this one had her trademarks: good characters and friendships and families, action and adventure, great setting and a mystery that keeps you turning the pages. Stayed up late at night to finish this one! Saw the end coming but loved getting there. A great upper MG read!
Started this as part of Dewey's #readathon and finishing it now. Love Ani. What a character. Spunk and heart, lots and lots of heart #mglit
Fast-paced! Funny! This is definitely not as good as The False Prince trilogy. But still I enjoy reading every bit of it.
It's been a long time since I liked a book enough to post a Litsy review. Then I read The Scourge! I loved this. My quick connection to the characters reminded me of how I felt about the characters in The False Prince series (by this author). The plot was fantastic and I stayed up far past my bedtime to finish it. So worth it!
Jennifer A. Nielsen is my favorite author of all time. I love The False Prince trilogy. Hope that this is just as good!

My MG/young YA read for the day. I adored Jennifer Nielsen's The False Prince. I'm liking this too although so far not as much as False Prince.
