Susan is sent a manuscript by her ex-husband, and features within the story of Susan reading the book and reflecting on relationships with her ex and current husband.

Some bits were interesting… but I can‘t say I “liked” either story! The writing felt disjointed and rambling, with fragments of sentences instead of whole sentences used frequently. And I just didn‘t understand the point of the story as a whole 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was a great, contemplative semi-thriller where I was never sure what I was holding my breath for. I can see why it has mixed reviews - there‘s a lot more sitting on the sofa sifting though memories than there is normal thriller content - but I loved the writing and how the two plots spoke to each other.

I have the day off work today which I‘m very grateful for after a very stressful few weeks getting everything set up at the new flat. I had some creative projects I was going to work on but I honestly feel so burnt out I think I‘m just gonna read and work on #scarathlon2021 today before a friend comes over in the evening. Got a lot of spooky books to get through!

Moving all my stuff from my old house to my new house has been one of the most exhausting days I can remember. So much more to get sorted tomorrow, and I have to go into the office as well, which I could do without. Spending an hour before bed drinking something hot and reading this incredibly eerie book. The movie freaked me out so much years ago, and the book so far it‘s just as creepy and intimate.

#Movie2BookRecs #amyadams 14. Nocturnal Animals is a movie and book that has been in my TBR for a while. Although I can‘t recommend it, I want to read it. #mayarudolph in Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon for my woman of color with this monthly movie/book tie in challenge.

A story within a story...one of which I had no idea what the hell was going on.

1. Covid vaccine and EDD appointments. Nervous about both.
2. My son has a cat 🐱
3. A one-volume collection of something. Maybe the works of Shakespeare.

Nocturnal Animals is one of my fave 2016 films. The book and movie complement each other well, and, while I enjoyed the book, Tom Ford's adaptation is slightly superior -- mostly for the visual aesthetics and smart story changes, like moving it out west, including cellphones, giving Susan more agency, and THE ENDING!!! The film's ending is a punch to the gut; the book's a mere slap in the face.

Incredibly gripping opening that is truly terrifying. You feel a sense of foreboding for the characters and share their visceral fears. It does rather fall apart as the second half doesn‘t really live up to the first.

This book features a wife reading her ex-husband's manuscript. Through this structure, Wright explores some really interesting ideas, my favorites being a reader's engagement with a text and a woman's expectations and realities in long-term relationships. However, I did not love my reading experience as a whole: I was not connected to the characters and felt the book a bit odd for my tastes.

I love mysteries but I don't usually gravitate towards thrillers. I've read the big ones - Da Vinci Code etc - and I have enjoyed them, but sometimes the pace is too fast and I never seem to ever remember the characters names! I haven't read the books shown but someday. #awesomeautumnbooks

Admittedly, I struggled through the overuse of sentence fragments and was ultimately disappointed by the ending.

I listened to the audio and I read the book. I didn't get the ending at all. I got the end for Tony but not Susan. Maybe it's just me but it just stopped. I'll have to see the movie now to see if it makes sense to me.

I'm reading while my 9 yr old decides she wants to learn to mow grass!!! Yes, she asked if she could do it ❤️😱

I've heard mixed things about this book and I am getting ready to watch Nocturnal Animals right now and I don't know if I want to read this or not. Who has read or watched it? Should I read it after having seen the movie? 🤔🤷‍♀️📖🎬 (oh and Jake Gyllenhaal might be my number one celebrity crush 😋)

I decided to read this book after watching the film that was *loosely* based on it. It was not nearly as dramatic or as exciting as reviews of the book had made out, I enjoyed reading only to compare it to the film.

New books, new worlds to explore.

Saw the movie NOCTURNAL ANIMALS yesterday and still I am mesmerized. Performances, writing, direction, design, music... A perfect film! A deeply human masterpiece about art, society and lonelyness, turning emotional pain into physical violence. Very visual, very intimate, very (& literally) breath-taking. Do I risk reading the novel? Will it be bearable? Will it be too much or not able to touch this adaptation's genius?

Terrified me when i first read it years ago. Rereading and it is even better the second time!

I was completely absorbed in this story from the start. Loved it!

So, I did something I rarely do today - I saw this movie (Nocturnal Animals) before reading the book 😱The movie is intense and I'm still shaken from it, and I'm wondering if it's worth reading the book. Have you read the book or seen the movie? I'd love your thoughts!

About to see the movie. Truth be told I've never read the book and most likely wont 😳 but pumped for the movie!

There were parts of this book that I enjoyed and the rest seemed to be the ramblings of a selfish, scatter brained, unstable woman who's loyalties changed with the direction of the wind. The movie trailer for Nocturnal Animals is what sparked my interest in this book. I hope that for once, the movie is better than the book.

This is the book the upcoming movie, Nocturnal Animals, is based on. The movie trailers caught my eye and I have heard great things about the book. My fingers are crossed!!!

Deal of the day!!! 2 for $15 at Coles! Seeings as I was looking for a paperback of It the last month. Finding every copy about 30$ this made a good end to my very rough work day. Also looking forward to the movie remake and adaptation. I'm a big Tom Ford fan. #muchlove #badday #booksmakeitbetter

This was...something else. I don't know if I can describe it any other way than a "hot mess," in that it doesn't fully come together but the pieces are so well executed. It's very pretty to look at - but it is very intense and violent. I recommend going into it prepared for some tough stuff. The performers are all excellent, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon in particular, and it's so pretty to look at. A solid 3 or 3.5 stars.

Totally enthralling. Just like the reader-within-the-book I have no idea what's going to happen and can't put it down. Tom Ford apparently has great taste in books.
