The second really excellent Native American #OwnVoices picture book I‘ve read lately. This one is about a little girl who moves to the country and befriends her elderly next door neighbor over a shared love of art. The only thing I didn‘t like about this is that it‘s on the sad side for a picture book (even a picture book meant to spark a conversation about death and loss). #BBRB PB Letter B #WinterGames2021 #TeamGameSleighers

A child named Katherena (in homage to Katherena Vermette?) learns to cope with change. The intergenerational friendship, the passage of seasons, the sweet digital collage illustrations created from pastel drawings… this gentle #Indigenous #picturebook is just so lovely. There are some words in Cree, also. #CanadianAuthor

Julie Flett‘s collage illustrations are always a treat. She conveys warmth and realism with deceptively simple shapes.
