This one was new to me & so adorable! The twins have to earn their own money if they want to go visit Great Aunt Helen, so they decide to start a dog-walking business. Jess shirks her responsibilities but Ken, who loves dogs but isn‘t allowed to have one, is thrilled to help. They get an opportunity to earn more money when Mr. Quincy brings his dog, Joe, for them to watch for a week. Joe is a Samoyed & is covered in cuts & bruises. The twins &⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Ken scheme to keep Joe from going back to Mr. Quincy. They tell him he ran away but they really took him to Ken‘s cousin‘s ranch. But their secret is out when Joe runs away & runs straight back to the Wakefields where Mr. Q is waiting. Mr. Wakefield puts him in his place in spectacular fashion & scares him away, once the kids tell their parents about Joe‘s abuse. And bonus: Ken gets to keep Joe at his house! So cute. 5⭐️ (edited) 17h
TorieStorieS New to you! This was one that I remembered well, but had so much fun revisiting! Now I‘m in the later ones in the series and they are all new to me which is a different kind of fun! 16h
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS we had opposite experiences because I started reading them around number 65 and read all of the ones up through the early 100‘s. So fun! 16h
TorieStorieS It‘s fun to have someone to chat with about reading them, though! 15h

Standing Out | Francine Pascal

I got way behind on my reviews last week! This one is all about Belinda “Billie” Layton, who is a tomboy at heart & loves playing sports. She‘s out of sorts because her mother is about to have a baby & her dad doesn‘t spend as much time with her anymore. Don‘t worry, Saint Liz will help! 😆

TorieStorieS Her parents stealing her name is a bit over the top, even for Sweet Valley, though! 🤣 16h
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS right? I had never read any of these earlier books other than the first 4 or 5. So I was wondering who Billie Layton is lol. Ah yes, Belinda! Poor Billie, naming their kid Bill is such a slap in the face! 16h
TorieStorieS I know!!! The Laytons are hardly model Sweet Valley parents! 15h

The Hairnet brings in a guest teacher for them to learn about the Holocaust. On his first day, he appoints new student Brian Boyd & Brooke Dennis as leaders. Brian picks anyone he “cool” & Brooke gets the leftovers. Brian likes the encouragement of rules, expanding “IN” beyond the class. Aaron Dallas is his right hand man, but slowly realizes the real lesson. We learn Aaron‘s grandfather is a Holocaust survivor & Melissa‘s mom comes back to life!

This is another super edition I haven‘t read since I was a kid & it was a lot of fun! SVMS‘s choral group is going to Washington, D.C., to perform in a music competition in December. The twins cover for their friend, Anna, who can‘t sing a lick but wants to go to D.C. to meet her long lost sister. Jess & Anna sneak out to the Australian embassy (where her sister lives) & catch a spy who‘s threatening national security. Because of course they do.😆

TorieStorieS This one is a fun one! 1mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I loved this one. The rivalry with that witchy Sherrie was really funny. I had forgotten almost everything about this book. 1mo
TorieStorieS I love the rivalries that spring up throughout the series! Sherrie is really a rat, though! 🤣 1mo

The Puppets of Spelhorst | Kate DiCamillo

Pickpick

Puppets begins with a shockingly sad ending. And it ends with a predictably light-filled beginning (predictable if you know Kate DiCamillo). At first, I thought, “I can‘t imagine a single child I would give this to.” By the time I finished the story and read the words on the back cover, “This is a story that‘s perfect for savoring alone or *for reading aloud and sharing with those you love* [emphasis mine],” I vehemently agreed.

Jumping to Conclusions | Francine Pascal

Mrs. W. has been spending a lot of time with her wealthy client, Frank. She & Mr. W. forget their anniversary. Jess quickly jumps to conclusions & thinks Mrs. W. is getting ready to run off with Frank & convinces Liz & Steven that their parents are headed for divorce. They quickly come up with some crazy schemes to make Frank think their family is a nightmare & hope he will run for the hills. This one was so funny! As pictured here, Jess stalks⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Mrs. W. and Frank at the mall & sees them looking at engagement rings. Jess is nuts but you gotta love her. 4⭐️ #SweetValley #SweetValleyTwins #SVT #twins #nostalgia #WinterGames2024 #HolidayBookDragons #TBRread 55 points @LiseWorks 2mo

Canadian Summer | Hilda Van Stockum

Pickpick

I chose Canadian Summer, the sequel to The Mitchells: Five For Victory for #foodandlit this month. The Mitchell family moves to Montreal from Washington, D.C. shortly after the end of WWII. There are 6 Mitchell children & they get up to all sorts of shenanigans. They befriend some of the French speaking locals & other interesting neighbors. These are sweet & cozy & I‘m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 4⭐️🇨🇦
