Beastars, Vol. 1
Beastars, Vol. 1 | Paru Itagaki
6 posts | 15 read | 3 to read
At this high school, instead of jocks and nerds, the students are divided into predators and prey. At a high school where the students are literally divided into predators and prey, it's personal relationships that maintain the fragile peace. Who among them is a Beastar--an academic and social role model destined to become a leader in a society naturally rife with mistrust? Last night at Cherryton Academy, an herbivore student was killed and eaten. Among the members of the drama club, the herbivores' suspicions naturally turn to their carnivore classmates... The prime suspect? Legosi, a large wolf. But he wouldn't hurt a fly--or would he? And will dwarf rabbit Haru bring out the beast in him? Or are his feelings for her...something else?

My husband fell in love with this series, so I picked it up to read too. The manga has interesting world building and a playful art style. I am a little torn on how to rate this since I feel like Legoshi's relationship with Haru is beyond problematic. Also, what even is this cover? is he biting his giant hand or trying to wipe behind his teeth? #manga

A thought provoking introduction into a Zootopia-esque world that displays the birth of mystery, discrimination and constant internal and external character conflict into the story.

I grabbed this manga from my library on a whim and now I am OBSESSED! It reminds me a lot of Zootopia (with the whole predator and prey thing) only set in a high school rather than a city! I LOVED IT! My library only has the first volume so I'm going to have to hunt down the rest of the series now! 😁💕📚

GondorGirl I read most of the series through the Hoopla app (which is associated with the library, I think? ). 3y
Branwen @GondorGirl Ooooh! I didn't even think about hoopla! I'll have to check it out! 3y

First finished book of the #readathon ! I enjoyed it. And it made me super curious what's coming next with the romance and the murder mystery.

Beastars is a story one can easily see as another Zootopia but it‘s something completely different and wholly it‘s own. A story about love, identity, and prejudice with great art, characters, and story. Watch this video if you want to know more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L5mbqRUhb4
