Die Volume 2: Split the Party
Die Volume 2: Split the Party | Kieron Gillen
6 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
No one can escape DIE until everyone agrees to go home. Or rather, no one can escape DIE until everyone who is alive agrees to go home. The second arc of the commercial and critical hit of bleakly romantic fantasy fiction starts to reveal the secrets of the world, and our heroes' pasts. Yes, they can't escape DIE. They also can't escape themselves. Collects issues #6-10 of DIE

This volume is a 2021 Hugo Best Graphic Story nominee. I like the premise of this series but can't seem to get attached to any of the characters.

It was a 3-Cs kind of breakfast: comics, coffee, and a chocolate bun.

In the continuation of this great dark fantasy series, the second trade goes deeper into the characters' messed up, real world lives. We also learn more about the world of Die. There's political maneuvering and political machinations, and, as the title suggests, the party splits.

The art is gorgeous as usual. Highly recommend this series, and you can find it on Hoopla!

Brief Life Update: My sudden unrequested shift to teaching 8th grade English has not been as bad as I feared, although it has left me NO time to read books or Litsy.* I have coped by reading a metric crap-ton of comics.

Brief Review of Awesome Comic: At its basest level DIE is Jumanji + D&D. 6 friends were trapped in a role playing game as teens, then get sucked back in as broken adults. Plus lovely meta-narrative elements. It‘s great! Read it!

TobeyTheScavengerMonk *Seriously. It shames me to say it, but I have yet to finish a novel in the year 2020. 5y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk *Actually, come to think of it, I did read Bluefish by Pat Schmatz ‘cause it was our One School, One Novel this year and I had to teach it. It was pretty good. 5y
Lcsmcat Well now that Governor Cooper has closed schools, maybe you‘ll have time to read at least one? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Lcsmcat Honestly my thought process today went “No school for the next few weeks... I‘m gonna get on Litsy!” I‘ll be desperately trying to keep my kiddos busy during the day, but no grading/planning means I am definitely going to be reading in the evenings. 5y
Lcsmcat @TobeyTheScavengerMonk 😀 I‘m sure lots of parents will be in your shoes! I‘m still in limbo over whether I telecommute or go in to work. It‘s changing so fast we can hardly keep up, but municipal services need to continue. 5y
LazyOwl I loved the first volume. I've ordered volume 2 and am waiting for it to come in. 5y

Die - end of 2nd story arc. Love this one!

Marauders is my favorite of all the new X titles.

The Dreaming - Sandman universe.

Excalibur - another new X title.

Death or Glory is friggen phenomenal!

X-Men - core book of all the new X titles.

Die takes my #CoverOfTheWeek post this go around. Writer, Kireon Gillen (wicked & divine) helms this D&D themed story of players that are thrust into their gameworld.

Stephanie Hans does the cover art (and interior) and I haveta say her work on this series has, so far, been outstanding! Every cover is a stunner and her inside page work is brilliant as well!

A fantastic series! 👍
