Based on a 1947 out-of-control fire in Maine that burned from the mountains to the sea and tinged the air with smoke all over New England. 4⭐️

Fantasy_bookworm @OriginalCyn620 Nice emoji sequence, although if it were out of context it would seem like you‘re saying “yes, I like to burn books.” Lol. 4y
OriginalCyn620 @Fantasy_bookworm no, it was just a nod to the title and the cover of the book 4y

I chose this book because I was interested in the title, cover, and summary

Sam goes to camp for the summer because his parents are not the best influence. It was a very dry summer in Maine and eventually, a wildfire broke out. The fire reaches his camp in no time and they call for evacuation. Sam is too late and is not able to get on a bus...

Lsantin6 ...He makes a friend from one of the neighboring camps along the way and they are left to fight their way through the wildfire, in hopes of escaping and getting to see their families again. 5y

Kiddo wanted in the photo. 😉
What an adventure! Philbrick ratchets up the suspense from page one and never lets off the throttle (never!)! I loved the direction the story took (with all of its twists and turns) and was bouncing in my seat for the last few pages.

It wasn‘t a 5 star read for me as it seemed like every possible thing that could go wrong did and the kids seemed older than said ages; however, it was a good survival tale.

Book Fair Book Haul Day 2. My oldest was told to pick at least one chapter book and one nonfiction. The rest of the his money could go to anything he wants and he picked some books for his brother.

Philbrick sure knows how to ramp up the tension in only a few short pages!
