I read this memoir many years ago and it has really stayed with me. Helen is an adult when she learns that she is Jewish (she was raised Roman Catholic) and that her parents are Holocaust survivors. I also enjoyed her more recent memoir, The Escape Artist.

For Fun Friday, here's my favorite section of the home library, the (mostly) literary nonfiction shelves—memoir, essay collections, & a few biographies. I'm a memoir/essay writer, so smart personal narrative holds a special place in my ❤️. (I think my husband @Santiago will share another shelf!)

catieohjoy After Long Silence, by the way, is a gorgeous memoir about family and identity. Strongly recommended, especially for anyone interested in Judaism/Jewish themes in literature, but really for any fan of literary memoir in general. 5/5⭐️, for sure! 8y
