Rincewind the Wizzard: The Colour of Magic ; The Light Fantastic ; Sourcery ; Eric | Terry Pratchett

This showed up on my Twitter feed so I just thought I would share it. I've not read any complete Pratchett books (yet) , but I've read a few pages and I have to wonder if he trsmlastes well to other languages.

julesG The German translations are quite good. We took it on us to read several books in the English version and the German translation, and we counted the puns/jokes/lol-moments. There were about the same amount in both versions, not only in exactly the same way, but the German translator did an excellent job. 4y

MariaW I‘ve read some of them in German, English and Italian. I think the German swear words are not as expressive and figurative as the Italian and English ones. 4y

AlaMich I read Spanish pretty well and I‘d be curious to see how well he translates into another language. 🧐 (edited) 4y

Oh look.... I'm finally giving Terry Pratchett a try. I believe I bought this book about 20 years ago and I'm only just now getting around to reading it.

(On a completely unrelated note- I am feeling cranky and cynical about everyone and everything today. Tired of saccharine sweetness from people when the world is utter crap. Have a nice day 🤣)

Sace @Martyn_J_Pass I can sort of tolerate smiles. Its overuse of endearments with complete strangers that makes me want to puke or react with violence. 🤮🤬 5y

Michollio I love Pratchett, but I don't really like the books where Rincewind is the main character. If you don't like this one you should give another of his a try. The Tiffany Aching books (YA) are amazing. 5y

Sace @Michollio i think when i bought this I wanted to start at the beginning. So far I like Pratchett's style. The library has several so I plan to try more of his books. 😁 5y

rwmg I started at the beginning as well, and I thought the first two were OK, but Pratchett didn't really hit his stride till book 3,
