Miss Seeton, a pleasant art teacher, recently inherited a cottage in the country. The night before repairing there, she intervened (with her umbrella) in a murderous domestic dispute. Her sketch of the murderer puts the police on his track, but Miss Seeton‘s involvement puts the murderer on hers. ⬇️

mabell The Battling Brolly (an erroneous sobriquet applied her by the press) is repeatedly plunged into danger, from which each time she is inexplicably extracted. Also inexplicable is her uncanny ability to foresee or interpret events into her drawings, and Chief Inspector Delphick (The Oracle) finds them quite useful in their investigations. 2y

1. 👵🕵️🌂🎨🏡🐓

2. I can‘t think of a novel off the top of my head, but I would love a sequel to Bread Toast Crumbs. Beautiful photography, and more important, delicious recipes!

3. Made for a few highly enjoyable lunches! (Tagged in comments)

Cute little, I guess I‘d call it cozy, mystery set in England in the late 60s. It honestly had an earlier feel to it - almost Golden Age. Miss Seeton is an innocent, a bit clueless, but she may be slightly psychic, especially when she draws. After attending an opera, she finds herself involved in a murder and the Scotland Yard Superintendent recognizes her worth. It‘s fairly well written, if a little short on suspense. 4.0⭐️ #2019

jpmcwisemorgan I‘ve read this one, I liked the little bit psychic part but I think it didn‘t do much else for me. Not bad but I‘m not sure I‘d read more unless someone gave it to me. 6y
rretzler @jpmcwisemorgan There is a link in the back of the first book to get the second one free. 😄 I think it was not bad for a first effort - it read almost like a “Golden Ager” to me, and I like those so I‘ll continue with the series until it doesn‘t suit any more, probably only reading 1-2 per year since I‘m more invested in a lot of other series and authors. 6y

Need a book that's sending up spinster detectives? Try Miss Seeton - it's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun as she wanders through life one step ahead of the police and always in exactly the right place at the right time!

Jess_Read_This I love this cover! 7y

Mehso-so

Nice, easy British mystery with an older female lead who's handy with an umbrella. Miss Seeton certainly doesn't mean to get involved in a crime but it happens anyway. The depiction of the village gossip is spot on but the umbrella is the best part. I think we should all carry on because they are clearly quite handy. #24in48

I'm not going to get 24 hours in but I have a few books I've started that I'd like to finish up. This is one of them. So far it feels like a nice, British cozy-type mystery. I'll see how it ends up. #24in48
